I wanted to go with Gram Lights or Volks. but it makes sense to go GL because that adds to performance where as the Volks is more for looks!

No. Rays makes both Volk and Gram Lights. Volk being their forged line and Gram Lights their cast line. You're saying that a cast wheel (heavier, not as strong) is more performance oriented over a forged wheel (lightweight, strong).

then why would anybody buy GL? for the price? if the Volks are better...curious...

 

Well that depends on the budget that you want to spend, without tires, for Gram Lights you will need like ~$1.7K and for Volks like ~$3.6K. For me both are good, being Volks the best.
