Excuse my ignorance of the Evo X but can they run VTA BOV's? I know they have MAP sensors but so do the VIII's and IX's but we also have MAFs or MASs for the actual air metering.

Nevermind, I've wasted a post. I can plainly see it in one of the pictures. It looks like the sensor is right in the intake pipe so no.......he shouldn't be running that.

No, you are exactly correct. Furthermore, after some exhaustive testing its seems that the aftermarket bov's contribute to the dreaded partial throttle overboost problem that people have been having, it took myself and Mike at RRE a looooong night of testing to figure that one out. So for now, potentially indefinitely, I am running my stock bov, whatever, works fine.

I've done my reseach and read a lot of different opinions , there is a few treads on this topic here on evolutionm.net . I also know I have built a few cars in my day and on all my turbo cars I've ran a VTA BOV and never had a problem even on cars wit MAF sensors. HKS is a world renown company thats been around for over a decade with years of R&D ....who also builds cars with their products sold by mitsubishi in other parts of the world. "mitsubishi sends evo's to HKS before the world even sees new models for R&D purposes!" I have heard of people having problems at idle "not saying its not possiable with other BOV's " but I have not experienced anything bad myself. car has been running great and performing like a champ! you also might like to read this .........

"The HKS Super Sequential Blowoff Valve (SSQV) is a dual stage pull type relief valve. Unlike other blow off valves that are push type, the SSQV will not leak under high boost conditions nor under vacuum at idle. Being of a pull type valve structure, the SSQV can not physically leak under any level of boost because boost pressure also keeps the valve closed against its seat. The SSQV is actuated by pressure alterations only, not by the rate of pressure or vacuum in the line, which ensures a quick valve response and complete closure during idle. On typical blow-off valve designs, a large valve is utilized in order to accommodate high boost / high horsepower applications. However, these large valves tend to react slowly and require high activation pressure to open, therefore are not able to activate and prevent compressor surge at light-load conditions. On the other hand, smaller, fast reacting valves do not discharge the airflow capacity required for high horsepower applications and tend to creep open and leak as the boost pressure overpowers the spring on these push type valves. For maximum performance, the HKS SSQV incorporates both a small primary valve for ultra quick activation, along with a larger secondary valve for additional discharge capacity. The SSQV is engineered to initially open the small primary valve at light throttle and load conditions, then sequentially opens the secondary valve for additional relief capacity under high boost and load conditions. The SSQV is constructed of polished billet aluminum, which ensures long-term durability and visual appeal. The mounting base utilizes a circular mounting flange that provides exception flow and complete secure mounting via a C-clip snap ring and O-ring gasket. The triple-fin discharge port design produces a powerful and unique aggressive blowoff sound along with added visual distinction. Minor trimming of OEM bracket required (very easy to do!). For Universal SSQV applications, weld-on flanges are available in steel and aluminum for custom installation.

The HKS SSQV silver triple-fin discharge design produces a powerful and unique aggressive blow-off sound along with added visual distinction. Additional triple-fin inserts are available in gold (standard high frequency sound) for visual appeal and in purple metallic (emits a lower frequency sound than both the standard and gold SSBV inserts) for an alternate sound and appearance. SSQV inserts are easily interchangeable within minutes.

HKS SSQV Recirculation Kits include the SSQV recirculation fitting. This allows you to attach a 1 inch diameter hose (not included - any hardware store or auto parts store sells it as heater hose or fuel hose) and vent the compressed air from the SSQV or Racing BOV II back into the intake stream. On cars equipped with a MAF, like the Evo and WRX, this prevents stalling at idle "which some owners" have reported.

HKS's newest kit for the Evo also includes their polished upper intercooler pipe that is flanged for the Super Sequential Blow Off Valve (see first picture). This kit includes all necessary mounting hardware as well as the recirculation fitting (for those who want to recirculate) as well as the triple fin sound insert fitting "

thank you!
owner of a 500WHP MR2 TURBO
& now a EVO X too!

& I went to my local dealer and had my ecu reflashed before installing any of these parts because of a ruff idle..... turns out some cars may need a update.... so go to your local dealer and have them scan your car to see if yours is in need of the update too! its FREE!
