That's a very good question. Yes and no. Yes you can see the tape because Rexpeed uses Grey 3m tape and No you can't see it on mine because I noticed that before I installed them and painted the side of the tape with touchup flat black paint.

One thing I would add is when you're putting on the cf vents only pull a little of the backing off the tape and fold it so it sticks out from the side of the vent. That way if you don't get it positioned perfect on your first try you can reposition the vent without having to pull against all that double sided tape. Then once you have the vent in place you can grab the piece of backing you have sticking out from the side and pull the remaining backing off.
