touchup pen

i got the oem touchup pen (colour p26 for my RR evo x) and want to use on the small stone chips on rear panel. i'm getting the clearbra in 2 days and want the paint to dry before that. i did one tiny spot and am having issues.

the paint went on and was kind of splotchy. once it dried, it was better. from normal distance, you can't see it, but up close you can notice a splotchy bump. whatever, i can deal with it. but when i put on the clearcoat substance from the other side of the pen, the spot i touched up becomes alot brighter and shinier than the rest of the car! wtf? what am i doing wrong?

i'm dabbing little by little and not pressing the pen down which results in too much liquid leaking out. the instructions on the pen are pretty straight forward, but i'm not getting satisfactory results

i've had the car for like 5 weeks. not enough stone chips to warrant a re-paint...maybe 6-7 per side

I'm not sure why manufacturers have gone to the pens as they never work well and end up making a mess. I'm a touchup master with a brush but I've never had good results with the pens. If you are getting the clearbra soon I would just buy a fine model/craft paintbrush and dump the paint out of the pen in a container and do it that way.

I got my touch up paint from these guys;

The touch up pen blows. I had the exact same problems, so I'm just gonna start dabbing the pen onto a plastic lid, and using a soft painting brush I got from a crafts store to apply it on the chips.

Yeah those pens don't work for ****. I'd suggest getting a small plastic container for the paint and use a small brush to apply it. Good luck.

whats the best method for touching up mild surface scratches, i have two long lines along my trunk, and going across them with a touch up pen would be too much.

The pens work perfectly fine...if you have the skill and time to properly polish the area after the touch up paint has dried. Without polishing it, it will never look right. If you are skilled enough, a proper wet sand will work better than polish. Then, after polishing (or wet sanding), apply wax and you're done. Will look perfect. If you aren't willing or able to go through all the proper steps, then you'll get substandard results and say "the paint pen sucks." It's a process and takes skill to get it to look perfect.
