How much should a custom paint job cost?

I know it will vary a fair amount but I see on shows where they do the paint for 1.2k, but i've been getting quotes for 10k. Just wanting to know what it should really cost. I'm going to have to get a lot of painting done anyway from the hail dmg is why I'm looking in to it.

are you keeping your stock color or changing it??? also what needs to be painted besides the exterior??? ( engine bay, door sills ect)

Reg oem paint job exterior only at a reputable shop 2k, if you got some dings get a person on the side to fix the dings for you which will be cheaper.

^ i agree above you can find places that will do a good job for 2k.. me honestly knows a personal friend who does well above average paint jobs for like 600. if you want a reputable shop, be expected to pay a good amount.

It's pretty nasty dings w/ some rust, and no, I want to change to color, but i don't care about painting the engine bay.

If you know a guy that does good work in town PM me for sure, I've had a guy do some poor work for cheap b4 and that sucked, the paint was soft and I had to have it redone.

It also depends on the color and who takes the car apart and reassembles it. A full paint job needs all the seals changed, doors R&R'd, etc. Lots of mechanical work before and after.

Red paint costs much more. Expect to spend $1000 on paint supplies alone for a full paint job.

A color change is a lot of work to do it right. I'd be surprised if any reputable shop would charge any less than $5k to fix the dings and do a quality color change.

Usually a nice paint job around here will cost at least $4,000 plus. $1,200 gets you maaco and a crappy job.

you get what you pay for in paint. different bases and number of coats... it all vary's but you should be looking at about a 2k bill for a good stock looking paint job and about 5k+ to put it in a show.

That is about what I was thinking when I started looking, but people are quoting me double that or more, also In Austin, I don't know who can actually do good paint work. I may take my car up to IL to a guy I know does show quality work if I don't find a decent place down here.

I'd say 2k and up. That's how much it cost me when I painted my Accord way back. Which came out pretty decent.
