Keys to keeping the car clean of salt during the winter. (My X is driven daily)
Common sense stuff:
1) Don't tailgate, ESPECIALLY when it's wet/slushy out, stay especially far behind big vehicles like busses and semis. (OP is mostly guilty of this, that's the only way for salt to get that far up on your hood)
2) Drive to the far outside of the lane as possible when passing traffic.
3) If you don't "have" to drive when it's slushy/raining out... don't (good night to order pizza)
4) Wash your car every time it gets up above 32 (but watch out for puddles on the way home, if unavoidable, try to drive slowly through them)

Can't stand to see her all covered in salt. I'm sure that will wear off soon.
