They tell you what pad and compound they used? Doesnt look to be very deep swirl marks.

Also would be good to know what they used for protection (wax/sealant).

From my detail guy..

"Tell them I am a big Gloss-It guy.

The process was:

Wash/rinse with dishsoap to break up any existing wax

Claybar with Griot's clay

Rewash/rinse

1st stage rotary polisher with Gloss-It fast cut Orange pad and Gloss-It Extreme Cut Polish. Done one panel at a time until I was satisfied the scratches were gone.

Alcohol and water wipedown.

2nd stage was Griot's DA polisher with Griot's orange pad and Gloss-It Gloss Polish.

Alcohol and water wipedown.

Repeat second stage again over the entire car.

Alcohol and water wipedown.

3rd stage was Griot's DA polisher with Griot's red pad and Meguire's NXT 2.0 wax.

Wipedown. Repeat 3rd stage.

Tires and vinyl done with Gloss-It T.R.V.

How much does a nice detailing typically cost? I'd like to know whether I should do it myself or pay for the convenience.

Well this job cost $130, was like 9hrs of work. I do my own detailing under normal circumstances but I don't have the same level of equipment, patience and know how that my buddy does. Not to mention time. To me its worth it to do once. Once he has all those minor imperfections polished out of the clear it is a lot easier to keep looking great through the spring, summer, fall.

My normal process is Dawn to remove the left over wax. Wash, claybar, wash again. Dry, wax with my Griot's random orbital. Touch up with Griots speed shine.
