Evo X detail done right
Evo X detail done right
Hey everyone,
One of the forum members contacted me and wanted to get some love for their evo. Ill walk you through the detail
The car was a very clean evo, i mean very clean, its a 2008 with only 20k miles. It came in for some paint work.
Enjoyyyy
The wheels and calipers were first cleaned, all the way in to the end of the wheel, as well as fenderwells, and tires:

The car was then foamed down with a PH neutral soap to break up the contaminants on the paint to avoid possible scratching

The paint was left to dwell for 5 min then rinsed off

Everything was detailed out, the gas cap, door jambs, the works ...
Then washed using the 2 bucket method
Then onto the claying process, for those who are not familiar with it, it removes above surface bonded contaminants. In our awesome situation, we had red over spray all over the car.

Then on to inspection for defects. The paint wasn't too bad, but it definitely needed some love.

after a couple of hours, the paint looked awesome

the car was then pulled out into the sun for some further inspection

everything got corrected, even the visors

the car was then coated at the customers request of optimum gloss coat, a great coating, which allows waxes to be applied to it, a feature no other coating has, also leaving a slick finish. This is a coating which is vey durable, it resists the typical scratches that occur throughout the week, and leaves a very glossy finish.

Now time for the finished result:
People always ask me if I enhance these images, and the answer is NO!

The wheels were also coated as a plus for the client, and the doorjambs and gas tank, and even the exhaust tips!

The beautiful pearl is seen, giving a purple-brown visualization

the interior was also detailed as a plus, all leather was conditioned and suede was cleaned. All seals were also reconditioned and replenished to extend their life

The engine bay was also lightly cleaned and wiped down with wax at the customers request, all plastics were nourished and reconditioned.

As far as paint correction, the evo x's have a very soft paint. I used meguairs ultimate compound( least abrasive compound they offer) with an orange Uber cutting pad. Speed 5.5 and worked it, it's important to break it down completely so it starts dusting. The followed with a green Uber polishing pad with meguairs M205. This process is key to a flawless finish. I jeweled the paint. So I started from speed 5 and worked it down until 3
Thanks for the details
I just bought a PC 7424XP and Sonax Perfect Finish. I don't think I was using an aggressive enough pad though. I was using a Lake Country flat Tangerine pad and even though it got rid of a lot of the swirls it didnt get rid of them all. I think a flat Orange pad will do the trick though. If not then I'll be getting the Meg's products.

Beautiful detail. Had my WW Ralliart done and the sealant they used didn't last 3 months! I hope your Optimum holds up better!
BTW, here's that orange Rustoleum Beetle:
