I'm sure a lot of you know that matte wheels are a royal PITA to maintain and clean. I currently have powder coated matte black, but I'm curious as to whether or not its feasible to convert them to glossy. Is this is as easy as spraying on clear coat? Or would the whole 9 of sanding repaying black and finalized with a clear coat be the best route? Any input is appreciated!

 

Did you get it professionally done or just as a diy project?

I could see clear coat spray on working, but it most likely wouldn't shine as much as you would like. The best and proper approach in my opinion would be to sand it, get it repainted to a gloss black or to the gloss/finish you want and then to clear coat it. It's better to go the extra mile to make it look nice than to do it half hearted and end up not liking it.

 

Dr. Beasley has a matte wheel cleaner and sealant. Rather than spending money on having it redone, it'll be easier if you use the right products.

These are aftermarket wheels that were matte powder coated from the factory. For some reason matte wheels seem to be the trend right now, but they're he11 to clean. Looks like my Spring project will be sand/paint/coat. Of course I could always just send out for this, or buy glossy wheels. But wheres the fun in that!? I love being able to say that all of the work done to my car was done with my own hands, not my wallets.
