Why 9 & 9.5?

Sorry for a noob question.
I observed that quite a number of members running 18 x 9 or 18 x 9.5 on stock tires, is there any distinct advantage in running wider rims?
I would think that narrower/lighter rims would improve pickup....

haha no, the wider the tire you have the better foot print you have so there's more traction lol where did you hear that?

I am referring to the rim size, assuming the tire size are the same.

they are to run wider tires, i think a lot of the ppl will run the stock tires just so they dont have to buy new tires, im sure theyll run bigger tires when they replace them

A wider rim using the same tire will stretch the tire more allowing for a slightly larger footprint but also decreasing the sidewall height making them less suitable for daily driving. depending on how wide the rim is and how narrow the tire is, you could also have sealing issues between the rim and the tire. Go to tirerack.com to view the stats chart for your specific tire to see what range of rims will work with it. Generally a wider rim is simply to put a wider replacement tire on it.
