New Wheels No TPMS Light?

I just put on my new wheels and my tire pressure light didn't come on? I didn't switch them over to the new wheels from the stock ones, so I don't have any sensors on. I thought it instantly made the light come on.

any ideas why?

or am I wrong and new wheels don't cause the light to come on?

if thats the case, the light wont even come on instantly when theres pressure loss on the factory wheels? That means I can be driving on a flat for a few miles

I wonder if removing the TPMS from the stock wheels and keeping them in a small box or something kept in the trunk or glovebox would fool the sensors into not throwing the light. I've heard they run off proximity, but just HOW close they'd have to be...

That will only work if the box you're keeping it is airtight and pressurized at 32psi (or whatever the stock sensor is set to).

But on that note, I've heard of people putting all the tpms sensors into the spare in the trunk and keeping the spare pressurized. That will fool the car into thinking all the tires are at the right pressure. of course, that will render your spare useless

The light will still be on cause the sensors are not sensing pressure

The only way for the lights to not come on is to carry all 4 of your stock wheels w/ tires on them in your car at all times!!!

i have been told, by several on here who i assume have not found this thread yet, that the tpms run off of the centrifical force of the tire spinning. that is why it takes a while for them to come on but once running would let you know if the tire goes flat instantly. it must be able to store a small amount of energy as well since it doesnt come on at stop lights/signs. or maybe they work on magic hell i dont know. but this is what i have been told. i KNOW that it does take a while for the light to come on once you switch tires. it takes mine about 5 to 15 miles usually before the light comes on.

i dunno about that...it may be waiting because of searching for a TPMS sensor, doesn't necessarily mean it won't light up the instant you have a flat if the TPMS is installed and working.

i think there might be a different between no tpms and tpms with low pressure. when temps started droping last year, i had the tpms dash light go on and it was only about 100 feet down the road. when i put my winter wheels on with no tpms, it took like 3 starts before the tpms light went on.

i remember some one mentioned that the tpms is geared for the idiots who never check their tire pressure....

I just wish we had TPMS just like Acura which tells you what pressure EACH tire has that is displayed on the monitor in the gauge cluster.
