Ordering new tires

I'm looking to get a new set of tires early next week. These tires will be mostly for street with maybe a driver school or two during the year. I was thinking of getting the Falken Azenis RT 615's but those seem to be more of a Auto-X tire. Basically I'm looking to get something that grips atleast as much as the stock advans. Can anyone recommend a tire? Also does anyone have any information on the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 tires?

The 615 is a very old compound. Unless it's the only thing in your size (miata typically) I can't recommend it.

The stock tires are very grippy, but they are pretty expensive.

You need to decide what you value most:
- cost
- life
- grip

You can control basically one of these factors (and sometimes two). There is no tire that is cheap, long lasting and has epic grip.

^ He speaks the truth.

Check out the Nitto NT-05 or Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs. They've become fairly popular lately.

The above plus Kumho Escta XS <--- fairly cheap alternative and supposedly has pretty good grip. I'm not sure about sidewall stiffness but I'm expecting them to be a little soft. No info about wear because it's such a new tire.

Why don't you try them out and let me know!

I will never purchase another set of Kumho's again.

RE-11's. I'm currently running RE-010R's on my X with great success. The 11's have replaced the 01R's so I'm assuming they're an improvement over the old tires. Kinda pricey though.

+1 Direzza Z1s, currently running them, might try NT-05s, but I have no complaints for the Dunlops.

I have the RT-615's on right now, and they've lasted about 15,000 miles (and no autox's unfortunately)... I'm also looking at the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 now, does anyone have any info on this tire? it "seems" good, if it's as good as the RS2, that would be great...

Toyo T1R is a budget-friendly set with good grip. they also have the track-oriented R1R.

perhaps the best though i would have to say is BFG's KDW2. though noisy, i haven't seen another set of tires that offers the KDW2's grip at its price.

2006 called and they want their tires back

Seriously though, all of the other tires mentioned in this thread are better than the tires you mention here (especially the KDW2's).

Um, ok...good for you?

Doesn't change the fact they're still widely used. As long as they're still available, they can be purchased. That's all there is to it.

The star specs are $187 on tire rack. The KDW2's are $183. The Star Specs are quieter, grippier, and all together a better tire than the KDW2 could ever be.

Now... I am FIRMLY impressed with the AD08. $255/tire though is a pretty penny, but they are VERY fast.
