When thinking about replacements for the stock Advans... don't forget the Bridgestone RE-11's!

Star Specs
R-S3's from Hancook
RE-11's
Nitto NT-05's

There are many that are as sticky and some even more so... it really depends on what YOU want out of them.

I have a really difficult time figuring out why our OEM tires are so expensive. All of the tires listed in the previous posts are top of the line and are proven to work extremely well every day by enthusiasts like us, and they cost a fraction of the price. Are these magic tires? Do these tires come from the same place where jack got his bean stalk beans?? I think not. Don't waste your money on advans.

thats how it is with alot of OEM tires

look at how many imports come with the bridgestone RE050A....they are extremely overpriced for what they are....and many other aftermarket brands perform much better than them....

same goes with Michelin PS2....overpriced for what they are too

definitely agree.... pretty sad when the OE tires are 330 a piece, yet a set of Kumho's are less than half and some people claim they have even more grip.

i will admit that the stock advans are extremely sticky for a street tire....tire rack classifies the advan 13c as an "ultra high performance tire" but I think it should be in the same class as "extreme performance tire"....especially with the way they handle and how quickly they wear

i would never pay $330 for a13c's though....i would rather dump that money into advan ad08's and pocket the change....

reading this on the Kumho summer tire it basically says a lot of these tires are developed just for certain types of cars which would explain the high cost. Mitsu convinces people who don't know any better that they have to have this same tire for their car when in fact many tires meet or beat the Advans http://www.modified.com/tech/modp-09...iew/index.html

when i upgraded from my oem advan a13 to 275/35/R18 kumho XS...the difference wasn't that huge....it was noticeable but not huge...that goes to show how well the OEM advans were designed....i just wouldn't purchase them again if my tires wore out...theres plenty of aftermarket choices out there that perform equal or better than stock advans at half the cost

Really? I loved the Advans as street tires. Meh, to each his own. I have the Hangook V12 EVOs now. Good tires, but with the Advans, I would never squeal through turns, these seem to have the same amount of grip but considering how loud they scream through turns, I'm not so sure. But even if the V12 EVO was 80% the tire the Advan is, at over 50% less and longer treadlife for a street tire, it's pretty much a no brainer.

ok thanks for the input guys. i want to make it clear that i would never condone spending $331 per tire for the stock advans. i'm wondering why people are selling them for 500 bucks basically brand new. i mean if selling them for 500 and getting some star specs for 800 is a big upgrade then i'm all for it. but if i can get a set of stock take off advans with like 1000 miles on them for almost half the price, that seems like the better deal, no?

i wouldn't worry about getting star specs or kumho xs...i doubt you will feel any performance difference....assuming you stay with the stock size that is....the OEM advan is a very sticky tire and is in the same league as the kumho xs and star specs.....the only thing is they cost alot....that is why once your advans wear out, switch to the cheaper brands....

A majority of these people may be going for two sets of rims, one for summer (larger than stock) and one for winter (A/S tire on stock rim, or winter tire). It is not necessarily they are upgrading the stock tire, they just have no need for two sets of summer tires. Or, they take the tires off because it is easier to sell the rims and tires separately.

Yeah but the Ecsta XS are useless in the wet so when you are outfitting a production car you want to look for a performance tire with all around performance.
