Front Swaybar Only?
Front Swaybar Only?
Hi guys. Just got my X in May. Autox'd twice now. STU is a dead class with no competitors in my area so got some slicks and am running in B Stock. I previously had an 06 STI. On the STI upgrading the front swaybar was a big improvement in handling vs the rear. Since B Stock only allows front I'm curious if there would be any real improvement doing the front only on this car. I know the steering setup is way different than the Subaru. Any thoughts?
The front swaybar install is a huge pain compared to the Subaru....just so you know.
For B Stock i would probably upgrade the front bar since it's a bit different than most other applications and you're so limited.

welcome to the forum and congrats on the new car
if your car is your daily why not just do both?
im sure it will allow for more fun when you're driving and you probably do alot more regular driving than auto x events
we offer a few different options

Yes, what he said. Since I can't change anything BUT the front swaybar I'm curious if it is worth it. On a Subaru it helps with the dynamic camber but not sure on the Evo. I don't want to get one and go through the pain of installing it and then find out all it does is make the car understeer.

I don't think you'll gain enough for it to be worth it.
Most bars on their softest setting up front don't increase the effective rate all that much. If you want to go with the stiffest, you'll most likely start to notice an increase in understeer.
I was sort of in the same boat over putting a front bar on or not. In the end, it was a 5% rate increase and a $350 labor charge. It just didn't make sense to do it.

I'm not sure though....for B stock it might make sense with r-comps or hoosiers. The front is going to roll like crap. I suspect at the limit the car will understeer but that limit will be higher, and front end response and transitions will probably improve.
(not saying this as a vendor, just my opinion. i have never run just a front bar on a X)

I vote rear only. I agree with a front only it will plow like crazy. The front is a waste of money for an evo x. When I ran cobb front and rear on my mr last season I ended up setting the front to the softest setting
I got both with plans to run both. Told myself i'd try one event with just rear before dropping the subframe just to put the front on, and honestly, it was perfect. Middle setting with stock size nt05s and the car rotates nicely. I wouldn't even want to imagine what would have happened if i stiffened up the front. It already suffered from understeer, why promote such a terrible attribute?
If your looking to just stay in class, dont worry about a sway, just drive it. It has a great suspension as is! Besides, class racing is only worthwhile if your looking to do something past local level, where btw, PAX times seem to be more valuable.
