fact or myth?

So i have been told that if i run a 20mm or 25mm wheel spacer, that they will break from autoX or a track day?

is this true? I like my stock wheels, but i dont like how much they are sunk in the wheel well.

One of the most popular track wheels for our cars are the +38 9.5" RPF1's which need a 20mm spacer. I can't dispel the myth with any science, but I know second hand that using a quality spacer and properly installing it will not cause issues.

The only issue you have with use of the spacers is that you are increasing the load onto the wheel studs (or bolts if car is equipped with them). So, if you want to make sure things are safe and sound while using spacers, get a set of stronger studs (ARP came to my mind here as a first choice). It would also help if they are bit longer, but as long as you can use at least 6 or 7 threads you should be fine - for me though, I like them all to be used regardless). The last thing I would make sure to check here and there are the hubs, since with wheels pushed further out they will be getting more torture as well.

what about the spacers with the bolts built into them?

They are (or should be) built to withstand all of the regular abuse that studs go through in their life span. So from that point there is nothing special to do once you get a good set! The only bad thing about those is that you are increasing the weight of the wheel, which has its own problems of different nature that might affect you or not.

I'm interested in this as well, I've heard some good things about Ichiba Spacers, they sell 2 versions. Version I goes up to 15mm and is just a spacer with longer studs (which I'd replace with ARP anyway). The Version II's bolt on the hubs using the OEM studs then have studs of their own that the wheels bold on to.

Version I ($105 per axle)


Version II ($135 per axle)
