Tire tear....

So I was coming up to an intersection, and a truck was taking a sharp turn that cut into my lane and i moved over ot avoid him hittin the curb pretty much dead on ( was only going about 15 mph or so) but it was enough to leave a small tear in the tire.

What I'm wondering is at what point a tear in the sidewall would require that I get a new tire? It isn't very deep, and I was told by people at my job ( I work at an acura dealer in the service dept) that I should be fine... but I'm afraid they are talking about regular cars doing regular things.. i don't want to get in the mood to take a hard turn and blow the tire out lol

My boss suggested I move the wheel to the back ( which I did) but obviously since I'm posting on here I'm still paranoid.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

It's never a really good idea to have a tire with a chunk missing when you are doing spirited driving. Nothing may happen, but if it does, you're in big doo-doo.

If the tire is damaged on the sidewall, you should consider replacement.

Only time I would say differently is if you have like BFG Mud T/A or All Terrains and its one of the knobs on the shoulder area that is messed up. ...and honestly, that's not really the definition of "sidewall". But yeah, every time you corner you are stressing that tear, and with excessive heat from highway speeds, it could be dangerous combo

Replace the tire. No if's - replace it. Tears are dangerous for sudden loss of pressure events.

replace the tire. no question. if there is a tear of missing chunk in the sidewall, its automatic replacement. yes, you "might" be okay, but imagine cornering at 70mph hard and have the tear shred off the wheel.

wheel on road contact, metal meets guardrail, car spins out....you get the picture. bottom line, replace the tire

I'll elaborate, the tear doesn't touch the metal in the middle, its just a small slice into the rubber ( no bubble or anything)
