Winter Tire Question

Anyone have good recommendations for winter tires for stock tire size? 2008 MR, if it helps.

Also, if no tires fit on stock wheels, what's the best size I can get a Blizzak in for this car?

stay with stock size or on step down if its a heavy snowing area.

If the very heavy snow area i would get a narrower rims with a good (wider) off set, and put some 215-45 /18 tires on it

or the 215 - 40 - 18 , depends on your ride height also...

You have to get the LMs if you want OE size: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....um=44HR8LM60XL

Note: a Blizzak is a great winter tire in that it's great on ice and packed snow. But the voids are not big enough for fresh or chunky snow.

Consistent with what Rob said, I really wish (now) that I'd gotten 225s.

if i ever get a chance to finally go on snow with my car , my set up probably will be 17 inch rims, and 175- 185 wide tires with 50-45 height (possibly studded )

if that is possible ... LOL

Hopefully Bridgestone comes out with a WS-70 in 235/40/18. I see there's currently a WS-60 in that size.

Personally, I think the stock tire sizing is a slightly wide for the wheel it's on.

Sorry. I should have been clearer. What I wish I'd got are 225/45/18s. I not only want less tread, but also a taller tire. You just need a low offset to keep the fronts off the spring perch, but you'd want a lower offset, anyway.

I got Dunlop Winter Sport 3Ds in 235/40 and I regret not getting 245s. They're great snow tires though.

I have the WS60 on my car (Stock tire size) and have driven in 5 inches of snow and some ice already and they are rock solid. Very confident driving. The only draw back is on dry roads they are a little squishy in the corners. But i knew that before buying them. I need serious tires where i live so the LM series was out of the question.

All Blizzaks that I've owned are NOT confidence-inspiriing in dry roads. Sometimes I would feel that the entire car has rolled over the outside tires' sidewall.

But boy are they good in light and packed snow.

I bought Michelin Alpin PA3s in 235/45/18s. They are "good" on dry roads, as in at least better than Blizzaks.

They're phenomenal on ice and snow. Best ice tire I've ever had. Similar to Blizzaks on snow.
