nitrogen filled tires don't loose air over time, they keep the same psi. It also dose not heat up or cool down when driving so you keep the the same over all psi when you drive.

Nitrogen doesn't expand at the same rate as air when heated, so at the track you won't be adjusting tire pressure as much.

the gas you normally fill your tires with (air) is almost 80% nitrogen.

do not pay anyone to fill your tires with "pure nitrogen".

if they are giving it to you for free as part of a tire deal .........

.............that would be fine.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. How much are we looking at in price for them to fill it with "Pure Nitrogen"?

I use diluted water for my tires. Gets tricky in the sub 32 degree weather.

You will not be getting "pure nitrogen" in your tire. The industry standard is 93.5% N2 in your tire to realize any benefit. A good nitrogen system will get you around 95% nitrogen. Definitely do not pay anyone $15-20 per tire to put nitrogen in.

I paid something like $8 per tire a few years ago on my previous set. First and last time I do that, as it seemed I was still having to air up all the tires, and since it was such a pain to go back to the shop, I was just topping off with my air compressor at home. The other down side, is if you swap winter/summer tires on the same rims, nitrogen doesn't make as much sense, either. The only advantage I saw, was I had cute green valve stem caps, instead of black.

This.

Gimmick.

Here is the composition of air (aka what you are breathing now as you read this):
Nitrogen -- N2 -- 78.084%
Oxygen -- O2 -- 20.9476%
Argon -- Ar -- 0.934%
Carbon Dioxide -- CO2 -- 0.0314%

ZOMG! Air is mostly nitrogen! Guess what?!? You've always been filling up with nitrogen. Someone just found a way to make more money off a sucker.

Alpha - your wife's car likely has a bead seating or wheel lip corrosion issue. Dismount, inspect bead area on wheel and tire, remount (w/valve cores out) to max sidewall PSI then bleed back to placard.

some places give it away for free, costco for example fills with nitrogen and will accommodate you if you ask nicely.

there are some benefits to filling with nitrogen over air like some people have pointed out (track benefits etc). but even for street driving, the higher purity of nitrogen in your tires will allow you to drive for longer without needing to "add air" to your tires.
