Weird ride

So my 08 Evo was put to rest by a buddy of mine and it drove great, very solid road handling with just Eibach springs. Recently I purchased a 10 Evo with 18k miles from a guy on the forum here and it has Stance coilovers also rpf1 wheels running stretched 255/35/18 tires, they have about 80% tread left. My drives in the rain on the highway going 45+ are absolutely frightning. Feels like im swaying back and forth lightly within the lane. air presssure in the tires are good, so i rule that out. Could it be stretched tires? or possibly the coilovers that are installed. The person I bought it from states he installed the coilovers without tuning them in. Would that make a difference?

Also, it pulls to the right when giving full throttle and also it grabs every snag in the road. My old car never did any of this and it was a more powerful car. Any ideas?

What kind of tires are they? What size wheels are they?
Depending on the tire tread and wheel size the tires could be doing whats called tracking, where they follow the lines in the road due to the tread design. A similar issue occurs with said tires in the rain (especially if they are summer performance tires)

Other possible issues could be play in your tie-rod ends or rack and pinion, but this is not likely to cause said issues unless it is severe.

What type of tires they are will play a mjaor role. I have FK452's that are 265 but my car handles fantastic in the rain. I would try getting an alignment or try mounting/balancing again. also, if the tread life is uneven on the tires, it might be causing an uneven ride.

Borrow your friend's wheel/tires and that will rule out that part.
Putting coilovers on the car without adjustment is not smart to say the least.

If the coilovers were installed and no alignment performed, that will result in bad news bears especially with a big drop.

Great. My Tatum O'Neal fixation has been in remission for about 30 years and now it's back, full strength. Thanks a bunch, Andrew.

Please keep us posted?

Its odd I came here to post a VERY similar issue. It's like it tries to counter steer and fix itself but there is no need for it. rocking back and forth specially in the rain or when breaking harder then "normal" it wants to steer itself to a random side.

I also notice when backing up and turning the wheel all to either side I hear a clunk on mine sometimes, do you get anything similar?

paid the "diagnost" fee they checked it out for FOUR hours and found NOTHING.

They tried to get me to buy tires, new brakes and rotors as the problem responsible for the drifting/steering issues but other then that they said it was all fine.

I asked about the knock/pop I sometimes hear when turning the wheel all one way and they said they tried for a long time and couldn't reproduce but that I have a large speakerbox in the trunk that makes a knock when it slides and hits the sides of the trunk...

I followed with a "Wierd the noise comes FROM THE FRONT" they stared at me with a lost gaze... I walked out pissed.

Good ole stealership.

did you actually get numbers or you just took their word for it?

practically all factory alignment settings have laughably wide "acceptable ranges". everyone should know what their alignment is set at, to the dot

I'd try getting an alignment and go from there.

I guess I did, I walked out pissed, I am new to this vehicle all together. I did the alignment with a friend myself and have the numbers written somewhere. Remember this is someone else's post I was just sharing his frustration. I see that you are in Houston as well, you go to any of the local meets?
