Removing rear dust shield

Was doing a pad replacement today for a track day and was annoyed with the rear dust shields being in the way of the back side of the rotor again. I've known people to remove these for cooling, but looking at the rears, I can't figure out how to remove them easily.

Poking around through search says these are tack welded on. Anyone with experience know the best way to remove them?
