Question Which EVO is right for me?

I searched quite a bit and didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

Around January, I will be trading in my 03 Cobra for an EVO. Ideally, I would like an MR, mainly the 6 speed being the main selling point (along with its supposed drivability and gas mileage benefits). Everything else aside, I can do without the wing, vortex winglets, and Bilstiens. If the 6 speed were standard then a GSR would be fine for me. I only plan on minor breathing mods and the addition of coilovers and minor suspension mods to compliment.

The wrench in the plans are the supposed limited availability of the MR, and the huge price tag increase for only one thing on the model that I really want. This could make the MR difficult to obtain and maybe stretch my payments beyond what I'd like to pay. This leads me to think that perhaps a standard GSR would be fine for me, and when it becomes available, switch out the gearbox for the MR's. Is anyone familiar with what the cost and feasibility might be?

Sorry for the book, if I asked anything repetitive please just link me to where I can find the info. Thanks so much

The Japanese 6 speeds are not set up the same way as 'Murican 6spds. The 6th gear in the MR is not a super tall over drive gear, it wasnt designed to get back CAFE numbers. The gear ratios are tighter. 6 spds are not all they are cracked up to be, the 5spd in a normal Evo is well set up for 95% of the drivers and engines. I also hear it is stronger, being the racing version of the JDM gearboxes. IMO a 6spd is not worth it (I had a 6sp in my S4) or necessary, kids like em for the bling factor..

If you are a triple digit driver like myself you might want to reconsider the removal of the wing and other aero goodies. The Bilstiens are excellent dampners and ride better than the regular Evo shocks while providing better handling, you'll get more of a Euro feel.

Go for a regular Evo, it has more than enough capability for your typical keyboard-racer. Don't bust your gut on the the 6spd. You'll be rowing more and it might become more of a PITA on the street.

thanks for all the input everyone. I've pretty much decided to save myself the extra cost and just buy a standard evo. Will decide on the tranny at a later date.

The Cobra has pulled a best of 11.80 at 120 mph, the fastest thing I have owned in a straight line. You'd be surprised to know that its very boring, and the suspension leaves a lot to be desired. I dont need all the power, and I can certainly use better gas mileage. My 240sx got way overbuilt and is now an occasional driver - before it got wrecked, rebuilt, etc, it was perfect for me with 270hp and a very nimble handler. The evo should prove to be all that and a smidge more - just what Im looking for.

Thanks again!
