How many of you HAVE had problems with your evo and the dealership FIXED it with no problems? i wanna know since these guys either don't exist, or never speak up. im seriously contemplating the evo, but have major second thoughts after going through the Warranty Void thread. HELP.
are you gonna mod the car?
yeah?
then why are you worried about it...yes there have been numerous people that have not had problems with either car or dealerships...when i got my car(even though its an OZ) i knew that i was going to mod it in one way or another...and warrantee was just not the question or thought....if you plan on beating the hell out of your car...do you really think that a dealership should fix your car after you beat on it?...i dont...if i caused it its my problem...
the evo will have the same warrantee as your Z did when it first came out of the factory...(relatively speaking) i have read the evo threads over and over again..but some(not all!!!) of those people complaining about their warrantee being denied either didnt know thier rights or beat the hell out of thier cars and expected the dealer to fix it....so choose your path...are you gonna be the person that will know what your up against ...and take it to the dealer when it wasnt your fault on why the car is broken...or the other person that beats the hell out of your car and expects the dealer to fix it when your the one that broke it...now with whatever car you get....only one of those will work...guess which one?

The thing is, you pay to play. Why should they warrenty your car when you're making 20% or more hp out of the engine they engineered to certain specifications? If you're going to race/drag/haul *** around town, they shouldn't support your habbit. Once again, I'm a firm believer in "You pay to play." That in mind, I would NOT ask nor want Mitsu to fix any of my drivetrain, but definetly fix my ac if it went out.
If you keep the car stock and don't race it they should have no problem honoring the warentee but do read the fine print where they say wear items (brake pads tires CLUTCH) is not covered and be aware of that.
Also dealer you take your car to makes a big difference some are much better to work with than others.

This is the worst forum in the world when it comes to people NOT answering the the question ASKED! Can't people read or do they just want a high post count? I thought his question was good as I sit on the fence myself. Now answer the question !!!

While this may not be terribly useful, I took my car in for excessive drivetrain noise. The first thing I mentioned was my concern over the warranty. The service dept immediately responded, "it's under warranty, so we'll fix it".
Granted, I had no mods and it turned out there was nothing actually wrong with my car. There's a longer version of the story here:

I'll "not" answer the question also. The local dealer here has given myself and several other local EVO owners ZERO hassles with warranty issues as long as the car isn't majorly modified. Carmax, where I bought my "gently abused" EVO, even warranted my clutch! <-the car is basically stock though. My local Mitsu dealer (service Mgr.) told me that unless it was blatently obvious that the aftermarket part was directly to blame for the "problem" then he would not void any warrantys. also, he would not void a warranty or even take note of mods when the car came in for routine maintenance.
The dealer 1.5 hours away, however, has evidently voided 2 warrantys for MBCs and dropped suspension.

I have had both good and bad experiences with the service department where I purchased my Mitsus. The service writers have changed several times and some were better than others in meeting my needs. All things considerered, my experience with Mistsu is no better or worse than it has been with other dealers over the years on other cars from American Motors, BMW, and Isuzu. My experience with Ford was the best, perhaps becasue both my wife and I went to school with the dealer's kids who took over the family biz. I can say that the bigger customer you are the better you will be treated as ultiamately you are just a $sign to them all.
ok, for the first 2 responses. i KNOW what will make a car engine mess up, im obviously NOT gonna do things like that and expect them to warranty it. my problem is when im reading about people not getting their warranty covered because they have a BOV and Turbo back exhaust that bothers me. that has NOTHING to do with a crankcase failure, or rod knock or whatever. so, yes, im gonna mod my car.....but not anything that would cause any problems what so ever. i don't wanna be scared to put a few bolt ons on the car and then get the run around when/if the engine fails. ANOTHER THING, its funny how the crappy *** clutch isn't covered...but if you use a descent aftermarket one.....they void your warranty. that my friend, is CRAP.
thanks for the replies from everyone else that didn't treat me like im retarded. keep the good experiences coming. i especially like to hear about the lightly modded cars getting fixed. im mostly worried about tranny and transfer case issues.....thanks again.

The manager at my dealership drives a turbo S2000. He assured me that simple bolt-on such as exhaust, downpipe, or intake will simply enhance the efficiency of the car, and would not void any warranty. But there are mods that may potentially put stress on stock parts, such as bigger turbo, engine management, or suspension mods, and they WILL affect the respective portion of the warranty...that is, if the service department can prove that the aftermarket product actually causes the damage.
But then, he's a sales manager, not a service manager. I brought my car in for a rattling sunroof, and they refused to look at it because they were much too busy at the time, and claimed that my lowering springs put more stress on the chassis/unibody, causing the sunroof to rattle...

I had a problem with my intercooler hose popping off ( missing clamp). They put it back on. I had a problem with a leaky diverter valve. They did a halfassed job and it probably leaks to this day, but I wouldn't know for sure since I replaced it with an aftermarket unit to save myself a hassle. So one good-ish experience (I could have fixed this myself, if I had the clamp) and one bad, which I did fix myself.
