Unhappy RPM reading

I've notice that my RMP is sitting at 1.2 when the car is cool and it only goes down to .9 RPM after the car is warm up. Shouldn't it go down to 0 when idle?

if your rpms dropped to zero the car would stall

Unless it is an electric motor driven slot car.

By-the-way (if you are for real) the tach reads x1000 rpm. .9 is 900 rpm.

I dont think because he didnt know that, he shouldnt be entitled to owning an evo? He wasnt thinking. We've all been there. We cant always use common sense.

Yes, your car will idle 1.5 and drop down to around 900 rpms when it warms up.

Also, all auto cars also idle around this rpm.

An engine needs to run in order to perform. If it were at 0, it would be the same thing as it not being on and running.

For the guy who asked how long he's had a stick you are just as ignorant as the guy who started this thread. If you drive an auto, the car still has to be running.

Anyways, I think the bigger question is how old are you and how long have you been driving? It almost seems like this would have to be your very first car or at least your first car with a tachometer to ask that question. I mean, no offense, but you are in control of a nice machine. It's good to know a thing or two about the mode of transportation you have chosen much less the specific means. That's the kind of question a chick would ask me. I might even expect jason@ntec to ask that. But I would just btchslap him in the mouth.

try here:

www.howstuffworks.com

and come back after you have memorized every article relating to automobiles, engines, mechanicals, etc.

I'm 21 years old and I've been driving for about 2 1/2 month now if you didn't count the days that I practice driving for my license which was about 4 years ago. Eversince then I drove once in awhile. Like I said before, I never own a car or have drivin any manual car before. I know you all think that owning an evo for a beginner is a mistake. But for the fact that I love this car that is why I gotta have it. Yes I'm one of the guy that drive around in an evo, but if you asked me anything about the car I would just go uh...what are you talking about. I'm not a racer wanna be, but I just like to drive the living $#%^ out of it. Just the other day my brother asked me why is the RPM is sitting so much higher than his car?, that is why I had to ask. I know it's a lame question and hey not everybody is a car maniac. I'm looking forward to learn more about this car. Look forward to more lame questions on this forum.

um..dude not to be a dick but this is what i said "not to flame you..but you bought an evo and you dont know that a car idles around 1 k rpm's not 0 rpms? weird choice..maybe stick to automatics?"....in that i meant that it seemed that it was his first manual car and maybe an automatic or a different car would have been a better choice..i did not mean in any way that an automatic would idle at 0 rpm's maybe you think I'm ignorant because that statement but there was no need for that insult in my direction..maybe because you're from texas your ignorant like george bush? right? is that something you like to hear? if not then please dont' direct comments like that towards people unless you're really sure they're ignorant..thanks
