My first impression on MR
Hi, everyone
as you can see, i had a WRX before. I just traded in my WRX wagon for a MR yesterday. After 2 days driving the MR, i think it is time to tell evo owners what i feel about these 2 cars.
first, good news, i do think MR handles better than WRX. good and nice distribution of power through out all RPM range. i don't know about STi, i have never driven one.
I had owned my WRX for 3 years and i still wish i had kept it for my daily driver. i got a good trade in price for it and a MSRP for MR.
the driving experience has been great, but something really bothers me is their responsibility of service the car, especially comparing my good subaru experience....
i went for MR because of many reasons, 1. a great performance car. 2. a new car. 3. the warranties. right after i drove off the lot, i already heard something rattling from the dashboard area. my shift knob was not setting in the right direction, screws on the clutch pedal was loosen and drop on the floor mat...., i mean, i don't think i will not be very confident in their dealership's promises comparing to subaru. i took it to another dealership this afternoon, they still can't fix the SIMPLE shift knob problem....
but, i still like the MR, i just wish their will be more responsible and more passionate about their works. otherwise, i will probably go back to subaru when they have a comparable stock 2.0 engine.....

I too went from a regular WRX (sedan though) to the MR. Putting the support of the dealership aside, comparing the MR to the WRX is like comparing apples to oranges. The MR is better in every measure (objective and subjective) of the car. The Suby suffered from terrible turbo lag - while I'm still in the break in phase in the MR (so I haven't really felt full boost yet), it is clear that power delivery is smooth and without lag. While I loved my WRX and thought the handling was pretty good - the MR is on rails - no comparison. The interior of the MR is significantly bigger - my three kids can fit in the back (whereas with the WRX is was almost imposible). My only two complaints about the car: 1. The turning radius sucks and 2. the gas tank is super small - the extra two gallons in the WRX makes a pretty big difference.
I have followed the complaints about Mitsu service, and certainly weighed that as a factor in determining whether to buy the MR. The sales dept. at both White Plains and Yorktown were great - no nonsense and no mark-up. Since I haven't had to service the car, I can't comment on the service dept. yet - but, right now, I'm having too much fun with the car to worry about it.

Good decision on the MR purchase. I wish I could have afforded that too. I went from a nice 01 2.5RS to an 04 Evo GSR and it's great. I would have went for an STi but I got a good deal on the Evo for under $30K out the door. The STi would have been great though. But i'm not really complaining.
The only major gripe I have with the Evo is that I already have a major squeeking noise somewhere on the pass. side and I can't figure out where exactly it is.
I had my RS for about 2-3 years and no annoying issues like that. I do miss the Boxer engine sound and the extra dash board "glove box". The Boxer engine with the stromung catback always gave me one of these --->
I haven't had any major warranty issues with the evo and haven't even taken my car for the free oil changes, but I'm hoping the dealerships would be cool with mods. I had plenty of mods on my Subie and the dealer never said anything about them. Great dealership. It's too hard to drive stock, so a nice major mod you can do is to get to know some good dealership service people, so you won't have problems with your car mods.
Good luck and take care!
