Help Buying new Evo
I found a new 05 Evo 8 @ the dealer that had an msrp for 31k. Is it possible/likely to get the car OTD for around invoice, which i believe is around 27.5-28k? I will probably either put a hefty downpayment, like around 20k (maybe cash). I live in AZ if that makes a difference.
if it is just a GSR, not an MR then i would think you could get it down another 2 or so K. most here have walked for right about invoice, or 500- 1k over. it takes some skills, get a quote, call another dealer, and know what the car is worth. if you really want one, i am sure you could really bargain on an 04, if the changes dont matter much. the only one is the LSD i think. anyway good luck, and dont get screwed, you owe it to yourself to walk away feeling good enough to brag about your deal to everyone else on here. they seem to me to be wanting to move MR's more than GSR so use that to your advantage.
Arm yourself with knowledge before you even step in or talk to a dealer. They will always try to make at least MSRP on any car - as evolved04 stated - anywhere around invoice to 1K over invoice is a good price.
Don't be under pressure to buy. Be VERY firm with your price - if you don't get the deal then just walk away and try another dealer. Time is your friend - don't be in a rush or impulse buy, be patient and you will get the deal.
Be in control of your loan/payment - shop for your own loan before you head to the dealer. You don't need to go through a middle person to get a loan - ie the dealers because they just markup the apr or "base points" - you can go directly to your bank or Capitalone.com, eloan.com, and numerous other financial institutions to secure a loan and then just head to the dealer and write a check for the full amount.
Oh - and one other thing - find out what the real invoice price is for the car with all the appropriate options - kkb.com, edmunds.com, will be able to give you that info. Dealers will sometimes show you an invoice price that is higher.
Good luck
