Might buy an EVo ..input appreciated
Hello everyone ...
I am torn between the EVo and the STi .
Any real world info about the Evo would be greatly appreciated ...
What are the Evo weaknesses ...... I have been told : 3 rd gear falls on its face ,
Clutch sucks , launches usually bog /difficult to launch .... Now I took all this with a grain of salt considering the sources were not Evo owners..again straight talk from you guys is appreciated.
I would like to stay stock ... but I can rarely resist the urge to mod haha
so if i did not stay stock .....how much would it cost to get to 350 whp and 350wtq.
I hope this is not too many questions...
I currently own a Modded Srt-4... 324 whp and 394 wtq
Need to make a decision in a few days

this has been beaten to death, try serching for more input. the STI will feel faster (more torque) but the evo is much easier to get better gains with mods. in the real world it is also a more fun car to have/drive. my local dealers wanted more for an sti, but not much so that doesnt help much. the evo may need tires and brake pads and a clutch in the first 6-8 months probably. but if you know how to drive maybe only tires. it is prety expensive to maintain, so understand that. if you think you can barely afford the car then buy somehting else. and you will need condoms for all the tail you will be getting. good luck.

That is exactly the kind of feedback I was talking about...

doesn't have a performance vehicle worth considering other than the Evo.
The EVO and STI are both great cars and you can't go wrong with either car. I personally felt the EVO as being faster due to the huge boost rush at 3500 RPMS. It really comes down to what is more important to you. If you like a car that handles like it is on rails and is very mod friendly, then the EVO is for you. The maint. can gets expensive such as the tires and brakes. However, all the maint. is now covered for the first 36000 miles I think.
The EVO is very strong in 3rd gear. It does fall on its face around 6000 RPMS but that is easy to fix with a boost controller or ECU flash.

^ the brakes arent covered by free maintenace, nor is the clutch or the tires. i have heard that you need to figure near 1k a month to drive an evo, this includes payments, insurance, and maintenance. but i feel like i am closer to $800 (w/o mod money). the free maintenace is good only for oil changes for me every 5k, and i change it once in between. cost of a case of mobil one at costco is about 25 bucks, filter and drain plug gasket is 7. but if you were to go somewhere and get it changed you are looking at more like 50- 75 bucks. tires will be expensive and like someone said a weekend at the track, or high speed driving could slay the tires in 7-9k miles. clutches when not driven correctly go out quickly as well, some guys only see 4-5k miles. there are some on the board that have gone 50k on the stocker though. it all depends on what you will use the car for though, and if it is your sole means of transportation. good luck.
