what are you considering the "competition"? there aren't as many parts for the 2.4 because it is much newer than the 2.0.

 

Don't buy a lancer looking for evo-like performance. it will never get there, even w/ turbo, or even if it were possible to swap the drivetrain of an outlander into it (though you're the first person I've heard say that it might be possible. I'm skeptical). There are something like 130 extra weld points in the body of the evo that help stiffen the chassis, they may have the same origins way back, but they're 2 different beasts now.

also, fuel economy... who said it was poor? I regularly get 28-30mpg

One thing you might consider, which one guy has done on here, look at the '05 scoobies. He got one for around 23K, w/ another 1K or so, you can have an AWD sedan that has the same HP figures as an evo, and a nicer interior

 

Just an FYI - if this was moved into USLG you may get more Lancer specific replies and something other than get an evo or buy a civic ...

If you are looking for a 4 banger tuner car .. and can't afford an evo or STI .. but want the AWD and tuning possibilities of a car, have u thought about a WRX?

I looked at an 05 Impreza, for the money I wasnt impressed. With a Lancer I figure I could pick one up for around 6-7k used. Kinda like a Neon
