Think of buying a used mod'd Evo - help!

Alright, I'm finally purchasing my Evo 8 this upcomming week, but the Evo I'm looking at has a good amount of mods on it already... the mods that I noticed are:

MBC set @ 19psi
K&N Breather
BR Air Filter Kit
BR MAF Pipe Kit
BR Battery Kit
BR Deluxe FMIC & Upper I/C Pipe Kit
Port&Polished Exhaust Manifold (told by sales rep)
Port&Polished whatever else, not sure (told by sales rep)

I have no idea where the car redlines... on the test-drive I took the car to 7,600rpm without hitting a rev-limiter and refused to test it further out of fear of damaging the motor. With that in mind, I'm sure this car has a re-flashed ecu. Assuming by the list of BR mods, I'm assuming it was re-flashed by BR and staged by BR. Keeping in mind, I am not mechanically-savvy, here are my questions:

1.) How can I tell if this car has stock or aftermarket injectors? Or stock or aftermarket fuel pump?

2.) How can if I find out if this car has the HKS 264/264 camshafts without taking off the valve cover?

3.) How can I find out which ecu flash this car has?

4.) Do car re-flashes have a safe redline with the supporting mods the flash was for? In other words, can I drive this car all the way past 7krpm... past 7.6krpm until I hit the re-flashed rev-limiter without damaging anything?

I already sent David Buschur a PM hoping he can shed some light on the histiry of this vehicle. This Evo is '03, Blue, and the original owner lived in Alabama. If anyone can help me find out some more info on this Evo before I purchase, I'd greatly appreciate it. I can supply a VIN# too if it's needed.

Thanks ahead of time!

the only thing that i would be worried about when buying any used evo is you just know that that car has had the **** beat out of it from the day the mods started coming on. For a small number of cars this isnt true, but most of the time it is most definatley the case. Dont have any idea how you could check for those things but im sure if your interested in it, you can ask the seller and see what he has done in the internals. If your paying for it, you should know everything about it. If he refuses to tell you, find another evo.

This Evo was sold by the original owner to a dealership in Alabama. The dealership then sold the Evo back to the factory, who which then auctioned it in a Mitsubishi Factory Buy-Back auction. Carriage Mitsubishi purchased the vehicle at the auction, and they're the ones trying to sell me the car.

If I could somehow talk to the previous owner, that'd make like much easier.

If you can't get a hold of the owner, or the owner is just a money toting mod buyer, and doesn't know much, you might want to have the engine go through at least leak down test, and you can probably find a lab that can do an oil analysis to see if anything is breaking down in the engine.

I'd also insist on driving it to feel how the tranny is, and get a list of warranty repairs if there were any done too it.

We hope to welcome you to the EVO owners family soon!

Good Luck,

jcnel.
