The Break-In Plan!

1-500 Miles:
Revs Under 5k
Try to mix the speed up.
Do a couple 3k-5k runs at 1/2 throttle and then let the engine back it back down to 3k with no breaks.

500 Miles: Change Oil

501-1000 Miles:
Revs Under 6k
Try to mix the speed up.
Do a couple 3k-6k runs at 3/4 throttle and then let the engine back it back down to 3k with no breaks.

1000 Miles: Change Oil and All Tranny Fluids.

1000-2000 Miles:
Full Boost / RPM

2000: Change Oil

2000-Death:
Oil Every 3k
Drive it like I stole it.

Sound good/bad/ugly?

Thanx in advanced for your distilled wisdom guys .

I don't think the 500mi oil change is necessary. Change all fluids at the end of your break-in period (1000-1500 miles) and call it good.

Searching around I wasn't really able to find very difinitive info about the break-in of the Evo.

Some say Hard, some say Soft. However this appears to be the one point that all sides agree on. Change the oil very early.

I partially agree that it might not be nessary, but for 30 bucks I'd rather error on the side of caution at something I'm only going to get 1 shot at .

I have about 250 miles or so on mine and have revved it to 7 twice. I noticed that it kinda dies off after 5, is this due to the newness of the car or is this a normal thing for the EVO. Thanks

This is more than likely the boost taiper that happens in the higher RPMs. I know Evo's do this but since I don't have a boost gague and my car has yet to see full boost ne waz I can't tell you when it comes on.

SRT4's do this as well. In stock form they hit 14 PSI until around 5k then it fades to 11PSI by redline.

MBC and EBC corrected this in SRT4's and I assume the same is true for the Evo.

A boost gague is going to be my first mod so i can keep an eye on what's going on in there .
