Newbie From NJ Needs Advice :)

Hello All!

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Rob, or, RolexNJ! I am not an owner, yet, but am seriously looking into an EVO 8 or maybe 9? Anyway, I love this site! I just joined a few days ago and am amazed at the wealth of information on here. Jesus!

I need some advice here, mostly from some of the more experienced people, no offense. At some point, I may seriously buy an EVO, but at this point, I am researching and collecting a lot of data. My goal? I am trying to find, hopefully, a tuner/builder who is local or within a few hours of me that is a top-notch bar none. If I am going to build this car, I need someone with a proven record for building road racing cars, and yes, is a very reputable tuner who can do anything and everything. Basically a one-stop shop.

How do I plan to use the car? It will not be a daily driver. It will be a weekend car, and yes it will see some track action a few times a year. But, not drag racing at all, just road racing. I want attain as much RWHP or AWP as possible, but have the engine last, and not rebuild it every year or so. I know I can take a few routes, from doing every bolt on imaginable and/or ripping into the engine and maybe doing a stroker, knife-crank, thermal coated pistsons, headwork, balance shaft delete kit, etc. I am a racer, not a mechanic, but I have been building a monster 944 Turbo for the past year - hopefully it will be the fastest street-legal one in NJ! And as such, I have gained a lot of mechanical and technical knowledge.

Ok, sorry this is so long. But that is how I plan on using the EVO and my goals. I did see a thread on here with the 2004 EVO shootout, that lists all the competing EVO Tuners. So, I know that could be a great starting point. But, as I said:

1.) I need someone who is top notch and local maybe? - TurboTrix?

2.) Someone with a proven record in the road racing arena - one stop shop too.

Thanks for all the help in advance. And oh, if you want to check out my Porsche, click on the link below my signature.

Peace,

RolexNJ

Hey guys, I know Rolex! I am in the state where his Porsche car is being built! I have the "mini-me" version Porsche 944 Turbo being built right next to his. My best is 340HP at the wheels on the dyno with 336lbs torque at 17psi.

Rolex is a research genius and has helped me find more info about EVO's in such a short time......because I bought an MR last week! Rolex and I have looked at our mega thousands spent on Porsche and been amazed at what an EVO can do for 1/3rd the cost!

TurboTrix and Burschur are my two favorites. Special Thanks for Robi for his help and offering to set up my suspension personally! TurboTrix should get with Rolex. This guy builds "magazine cover cars".

Mark - Turbotrix:

Actually I spoke to "Mike" at your shop this past week. I had approached him because I wanted a very detailed quote - with explanations too. He said he was very very busy and that he would get back to me. Well, I did email him days ago with a long-*** email explaining everything I am looking for. Yet, I haven't heard a word back from him? Go and ask him if you like about me. My email is my screen name too. I was hoping to receive a very detailed quote from him by now. And thank you for the offer to test drive one. If you are serious about it, I will take you up on it. Please send me a PM and let me know when to call you, and when it's a good time to come down there, etc. Thank you in advance!

YellowFever:

I am from Morristown, NJ. About 35 from minutes from TurboTrix in Edison.

Driv200:

You are my pal, but we are both nut cases. The "countless" money we spent in these antiquated 944 turbos is pathetic! Had I known about an EVO, and what they can do, I would have bought one and built up a monster. But Driv200, you got the EVO before me, so we can now research and build your car first!

If anyone is interested in seeing my 944 Turbo, just click on my link. "Hopefully" the car will be done soon, and put down some sick-*** RWHP! I know all you guys are into the EVOs, and so am I, but still, look at my web site. The mods, etc.

Stay tuned....!

Sent you a long PM

YellowFever:

Thanks. I'll look at the site. You have over 90 EVO memebrs, Jesus?!

Let me look and I'll get back to you. Maybe we could talk offline? And I would love to see some of these lightly to very modified cars.

Thanks,

Rob

Rolex,
I am also from the 951 back ground, great car. It's amazing how much performance can be extracted from the EVO with so much less money. I am a 1:03/1:04 guy with the 951 at lime rock with a track dedicated car. Last year I ran a 1:04 in the evo bone stock. The cars are very different to drive, I have a long way to go. Slip angles are much more aggressive in the EVO. The amount of grip these cars offer is just amazing.
I have a 03, so for me the first mod will be adding a front LSD. There are just so many options when it comes to suspension I not sure which way to go yet. Any insight?

btw Former IMSA GTP Pro Driver, which team, Iam a huge fan

Howie944:

Thanks for the hello! I am just starting to toy with the idea of getting an EVO. It may be about 1 or 1.5 yrs off. I am at the very very end of my Porsche 944 3.0L 8V project car. But I am amazed at these EVOs. Had I really known about them and their capabilities, more than likely, I would have went that route instead of the Porsche way!! Oh well. If you click on my link below, it will take you to home page, a very detailed web site too!

Anyway, my friend who just joined this site also, has a 2.5L 944T. His name is Driv200. He just bought an 2005 EVO MR. As such, he is going to be using it for auto-cross and track events too. Due to his limited budget, his first mod is a complete suspension make-over. During his research, I know he hooked up with a guy that is first rate; as a excellent mechanic and "top" EVO racer - not just a vendor trying to sell products. Why don't you send him an email or PM to get some information? He's a great guy and would share his finding with you I'm sure.

Yes, I have an extensive race background. I first attended the Skip Barber Race School, and then competed in the old Elf-Winfield Franham Race School in France, where I made it to the semi-finals; tested at Paul Ricard, wow! I have raced cars ranging from the old Skip Barber - Formula Ford Series, to Saab Pro Cars, IMSA GTP & Lights - a privateer team you never heard of, to Formula 2000 in France, recently 125cc Shifter Karts, member of the FCA (Ferrari Club of America) - driving instructor for various Ferraris (Testarossas, GTOs, F40s). And I did race in the early 90s, so I ran against Geoff Brabham, Davey Jones, all the big names. And yes, my home track was Lime Rock too, so I know it very well. The IMSA days were just incredible! Anyway, touch base with my friend on the suspension.

Regards,
