hey, just wanted to say hi. i've got a 96 gsx. im getting bored with the dsm fourms. thought i'd expand my wings a little.
a few things i hope te get answerd. I know alot about the 4g63 i've spent ALOT of time working on mine so i wanted to know a few things about the EVO's 4g63 so when i try and help people out i have the right information to do so!
EVO intake manifold, how does it compare to the 1g dsm manifold?
TB, what size diamitor is it? 60mm?
intercooler, and intercooler pipes? bar-plate? tube fin? 2.25in?
BOV, compared to the 1g bov is it more effecent? base boost 19psi?
Turbo tdo5h 16g "AKA" EvoIII16g to us DSM'ers right?
Any Tranny problems like the 2g's? snapping 3rd gear at 400hp like the 2g?
any considerable diffrences in the interanls? i know the Cams are hallow. how about everything else? what are stock capable #'s with the evo block/head before coming into problems?
1g 89/92 6bolt 4g63 no crankwalk, stong 500hp rods, crappy pistons, air/oil cooled, better bov, awsome intake/tb/head.
1g 92-94 7bolt 4g63 some crankwalk. 400hp internals, 20% crankwalk
2g 95(eprom)&96 4g63 Crankwalk up the ***. 400hp internals, better tranny & rear end, exhaust manny CAM sensor located stupidly.
2g 97-99 4g63 better styling, relocated cam sensor, basicly the best 2g's made.

I believe the evo intake manifold is comparable to a 1g as far air flow, however it is a twin scroll design and requires a twin scroll turbo housing to attach to. Do a search on twin scroll to learn more about that. I have heard the evo manifold looks pretty rough inside and would probably benefit from some porting.
tube-fin intercooler
stock bov is totally plastic, not as good as a 1g, it will start to leak at more than 19psi due to lack of a good seal.
base boost is ~19psi and then dropping to ~16psi at high rpm, all due to ecu controlling the boost solenoid. MBC/EBC or flash solves this.
EvoIII16g? not quite the same thing. First off ours is a reverse design. Also ours comes in two flavors, 9.8cm (2003) and 10.5cm (2004+) hotside.
Tranny seems to be more solid than the dsm tranny. Not as notchy as my gsx. According to DB it should hold more power.
as for internals evo has a slightly higher compression I believe, I think the stock heads flow better than a 1g, but can benefit from some work.
