Considering getting a Lancer...need encouragement
Hey guys, im ovbiously new here, but im a regular on www.neweclipse.org. right now i have a 2001 eclipse spyder gt, but its getting tough to afford, so im thinking of selling it and going for the less expensive approach. had a few questions though.
1. How reliable is the Lancer? any problems...the eclipses have plenty of small things that go wrong....damn mitsu.
2. How much should i be looking to pay for a used 02+ OZ 5spd?
3. How much do mods help the speed? intake, exhaust, headers, etc. what 1/4 mile time can i expect with light mods (all i will be ale to afford at first...intake, exhaust.)
4. This is probably asked a million, billion, gagillion times, but...........can we swap with the EVO engines? if so, how much would the full swap cost?
sorry for all the newbie stuff, but thats why im in the newb forum
i just want to consider all the aspects before i take the leap. any other feedback about these cars will be greatly appreciated.
by the way, anyone wanna buy a 01 eclipse spyder gt? 36k miles, pics available. for pics, email me at zeeshanyahya@hotmail.com.
thanks,
Zeeshan

the lancer's are really reliable. only problems so far are brake pads and a few burnt up clutches. nothing serious.
not sure what you should pay for a used OZ, look around.
mods are pretty effective, although not as cheap as honda's. light mods you'll probably be running 16's-17's in the 1/4 mile.
nope cant do the swap. well you can but it will cost probably as much as the car.
and one more thing. use the search button. hope this helps. by the way i love my OZ. 23k miles and counting.

yea, i knew i would get something about the search button....haha. i just dont have the time to search...im posting in a few forums, cuz im not sure what car i could get. lancer would be by far the cheapest....yet least powerful. im also considering an older model acura cl (they only run like $11-12k), 2000 maxima if i can find a deal, celica gts, and honda prelude. just so confused
id go with the 2000 maxima. the lancer is reliable, but not all that great for what you pay. light mods IE exhaust, intake will be effictive to the feel, but not much. you'l be lookin at low 16's maybe in the 1/4. i wouldnt pay more than 17 for a NEWlancer. id go with the maxima if i was in your position...but look around, test drive the lancer and see for yourself.
A good place to get an idea for used car prices is www.edmunds.com Just enter all the info to find the market price. Also, I'd check out www.ebaymotors.com Check out the reserve cost and you can get a good idea of the cost there too. The Lancer is an inexpensive, reliable car. However, if you're looking for something really fast, or with a really nice interior, I'd get something else. I love my car personally, and I bet you could pic up a really nice used one for around 10 or 12 G's.
