BTW grounding kits don't do sheit for this problem. It's an issue with humans + chassis, not car + lack of adequate grounding within the realm of the chassis.

Shouldn't make a bit of difference.

The issue is with you (human occupant) stepping out of the car charged, then touching the car whilst standing on the ground.

That is why if you are in the car, and you touch the metal on the door sill or something, you will discharge yourself before you 'ground' yourself to the ground. Thusly you do not get shocked.

I remember to do this about 60% of the time - my wife never does. I was thinking of doing ground wires anyway so maybe I'll try that if I find a great deal on them. I was'nt really thinking of doing the ground strap thing - I just would'nt be able to live with myself
Thanks everyone for all the input,

My 03 GSR hates me too...
I do have the factory Hyperground kit, it doesn't do a thing for this. Like above, it's about the ground you create when stepping out. I've even seen a 'flash' on dry winter days.

I'll have to remember to grab metal before stepping out. I've currently resorted to kicking the door shut

Haha, it makes my wife yelp EVERY time she gets out, but I know to touch metal first.

just use the metal in the center of the steering wheel tp pull yourself out. i did extensive testing on this and its the best way. for the passenger, open the door, grab the roof of the car to pull yourself out (like using the "Oh Shiat" bar).

Your rubbing against something to build up static electricity. I had this problem
when I wore non rubber bottomed shoes (dress shoes) big time. Just from sliding
my shoe over the carpet one time caused me to get a big shock. You have to
be careful so you don't cause a static electricity fire when pumping gas.

I was beginning to wonder if this is just happening to me. Everyone should be so proud of me for searching first before I posted a question.

Now that is dryer outside I am getting shocked every day. I will try to use the steering wheel trick and see if it works.

Has any more people tried the grounding kit and dose it solve the problem?

This is the easiest way to solve the problem:
Assuming you have many keys on your keychain instead of just the Evo key(has a plastic butt), choose the one that's completely metalic. When you get out of the car, hold the metalic key and touch the metal frame of the car.

This will result in shocking your key, not you.

ps. the fun part is if you have a dark garage, you'll see a huge *** spark

I shut the door from the door handle it never shocks me x= But when I touch metal anywhere right after, usually doors with metal handles, I'm pwnt x= So, it's not the car, its you. Or just me :P But I do get shocked when I forget to close the door from the handle from time to time.
