I think lotus carlton is above evo as well as audi quattro.

 

I think it is one of the best cars ever made. Maybe not THE best, but that isn't the question. I think it's great because you don't have to spend $100k to get the performance of a $100k car. While it is not as luxurious as those cars, Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear said it best: "That's the nature of the beast. And it's fine by me."

 

Evo 8 looks the best... the performance only gets better not worse

 

are we talking only about the evo 8 or the evo in general? if you will ask me about the evo 8, i would say maybe, but i would rate an evo 6.5 tommi makinen edition even higher. i should know, i have both cars.

 

ive beat audi quattros all day long with my car not tuned right once i get my a/f right i could beat that carlton

this thread is kind of redundant, being that this a evo forum! now have saying that i do feel the evo is one of the best car's ever made for: what we do, for the money and being a sport compact car, hell yes..i own one and love it!!!! but back to the original arguement "one of the best car's ever" the jury is still out on that one...now as far as my personal opinion on the best car ever? that easy, the ferrari enzo! oh, and while we are all dreaming i would also love to have one of the ultra rare nissan skyline r-34 z-tuned cars.....

 

Yeh, me too, but you haven't seen one tuned. You'll be suprised how well made those are.

It preceeds evo 8 by leaps and bounds and they came out decades before evo 8 did.

And really the older evo's don't compare with those machines... well least upto 5.

 

I voted yes, but then again I'm a little biased.

I'm sure there are better cars out there. But they're either tiny 2-seaters, or cost way to much. IMO, the Evo (I would also put the STi in the same category) is one of the best cars ever made because for the price, you get a lot of things. Good power and handling, not to mention a trunk that offers adequate space for grocery trips and a backseat that is actually usable. (I'm 6', just imagine me trying to fit in the backseat of a 911. Not fun.) It also gets respectable gas mileage, and is relatively cheap to maintain. (no $1500 oil changes) The interior is not fancy, but amenities such as air-conditioning, leather seats, moonroof and a stereo system can be found. All the above for $35,000.

I wouldn't go out and call it one of the best "pure performance" street-legal racing cars ever. But, the overall package that it brings to the table is hard to beat.
