It's great at the track but in real world driving it quickly gets tiring.

I'm contemplating doing a swap to the MR suspension to get a smoother ride. Can you MR owners tell me how the MR's suspension compares to the Evo8's. I know I didn't buy a luxury car, but I want the Evo to handle the bumps and cracks better. My dream car has always been the EVO and I love it to death but might just have to trade it in for something smoother if the MR suspension won't solve the problem.

I've driven the STI and I would settle for something like it. It's not the smoothest car out but the ride is manageable. Please share your comments..
dude go buy a buick.

i love the way this thing rides... and i got OUT of a SS camaro into this as a practicality move.

Definitely try the MR first. And the ask about the people who got modded springs. I know they make a difference on the ride quality as well.

at the cost of MR suspension you will only gain modest changes, this seems like a waste. now if he said, it just a tad to stiff then maybe just tires and MR would do the trick. but i think he wants something like a normal sports car feel . not the track car suspension we have now. which is great by the way . you just better hope you dont live on a bumpy road.

Go buy a $500.00 beater with a soft ride. To me, there is too much trade off for a softer ride. It may cause you to crash the car because of the increased body roll and upset the balance of the entire platform.

I've upgraded from a 03 to the MR. The ride on my friend STi was better but not anymore. You can't go wrong with handling and comfort . If i had a white 05 RS i'd upgrade the MR shocks, vortex generator, Dark MR wing, wheels... sorry got carried away

That is exactly what I was looking for. You just did it for me, You sold me on the MR suspension. It's now time to look at the for sale board for some MR suspension!!!

it is a little harsh on rough streets, but on a smooth freeway, it is good and firm

i am by no means attempting to offend anybody here but i have a question. we all(or at least i hope we all did) test drove our cars before we bought them. so we all knew what we were getting ourselves into. so why would you wont to make the handling of the evo worse by making it softer. at least that how it seems to me. i am by no means a suspension expert. but softer ride equals more body roll, less feel for the road. and all sortas of other stuff. given you could go with one of the set ups mentioned above. but we are talking about no less than 800 bucks(for the MR setup) to just make a ride softer when you knoew wht you were getting yourself into in the first place.

just my two dimes and a nickel

RKT i will not defend anyone but , sometimes the short test drive may not be enough to full appreciate the stiffness, I am ok with ride but i just happened to move down a very bumpy old road which of course is 20mph and the harsh rebound setting is really apparent. not to mention my wife does complain about the bumpy ride, ( she didnt buy the car) so its ok. i think we all want the best of both worlds great handling, and smooth ride. it can be had for the right price. test drive the Porsche S4 or any late model NSX very good handling with really exceptional ride. now where did I put that spare 80,000 dollars.

That is what makes the bilsteins shock so special. They are known to give good performance and ride. Lets say it is extrememly soft for the first inch of travel and rock hard after. Would that create more bodyroll than the other shocks? What i recalled the Bilsteins were made for the evo VIII and developed on Nurberg and i'm sure Mitsubishi can develope a good suspention. It could be the roof or perhaps a combination of things but I know my MR has less roll, better ride, faster on the course compared to my 03 sunroof evo

I'm still considering which shocks to get. I rode in a Mr a short ways to check it out and it seemed a little more compliant sometimes but a lot of the time I couldn't tell the difference. If a smoother ride is your #1 priority they will help a little, but don't expect too much.

just get some softer sidewall tires as others have mentioned and get a gently used set of MR bilsteins. The fist time I drove an MR I could tell there was an awesome improvement in ride quality. And dont worry about handling, the low speed properties of the bilsteins are just as good as the GSR/RS dampers, only the very high speed stuff for ride is better for the street. Thats why they are better, thats why they cost more.
