Question Why buy rims 1st???

I've notice there are a lot of Evo owners buying rims 1st. Why did you buy rims 1st? Just don't like the stockies going more for looks? I'm just confused cause a set of wheels usally run $800-$1k for some basic wheels. And that $800-$1k can get you a lot more Hp/Tq.

In the words of our washed up Vanilla-flavored comrade, "Rice Rice Baby."

Actually, I bought new rims within a few weeks after purchasing my MR...I needed some to use for winter tires.

I personally like my Enkei's over those BBS MR wheels. I just can't justfiy buying wheels till I can't get some more power under the hood.

This would be my only reason to have a second set... But still the stock Enkeis would become my winter wheels.

EDIT: Just like I regret spending $550 on my Alpine deck.

If you like the looks of your stock wheels then dont buy new wheels. Do what you want with your money. Putting 1k on mods is fine but it aint gonna make you much faster...

I'm personally just thinking about powder coating my stock rims.

It's not like they're crappy rims. Then again beware if you add any kind of exterior or interior mod cause it'll be "rice" to a lot of people

1998 Cobra wheels - $115/ea brand new from Ford.

Only bought them to put Hoosiers on my Enkeis.

+1 on the powered coating... And I know about catching crap for "riceing" my car. I had $4600+ in hail damage and my hood was a lost. So I bought a CF one cause it was over $500 cheaper.

Anyhow, back on subject: IMO, I just can't bring myself to buy the $1500+ wheels only when I could get so much more "Performace" mods for $1500. Guess it comes down to; "To each their own."

Wheels will be the first thing going on my car, because my warranty for the powertrain is still in effect. I have performance mods sitting in the garage waiting to go on, but I do not want to void out the engine and trans portion of my warranty just yet (only 15K on the odo.). Plus, I have all-seasons for the winter on the stockers, and don't want to switch from tire to tire on the same rim.

I don't really see how throwing on a nice set of wheels is rice by the way.

yeah, people on this site are obsessed with calling any visual mods "rice". the evo is an awesome car to begin with, i say who cares if someone is satisfied with the power of the stock evo and just wants to visually upgrade his/her car until s/he gets bored of it?

i would buy wheels, not yet though i still want some power mods, but the enkeis look somewhat plain. they dont go with all the colors of the evo.

Some like to go for a different look. A stock EVO is plenty powerful for most drivers. I would love to spend $1K in power mods, but I really wouldn't use it. I'd probably get more satisfaction with rims. Besides, pick up some RAYS gram lights, and you'll be almost as quick as power adders. I don't mind the stock Enkei's, but I just wish they were gunmetal.
