Body Kit/ Insurance Help!!
Body Kit/ Insurance Help!!
Hey guys, i really didnt know where to post this, but i was re-ended by a cement truck this morning. The lancer is pretty jacked up, smashed trunk, bumper cracked in half, quarter panels flaird etc. Well it occured to me that this is a good time to get a body kit, so i was wondering how the whole insurance paying for stock parts, you replacing them with differnt ones works. If any of you have ever done this before please help me!
im doing the exact thing right now, i ordered the extreme full body kit by accolade, and the spoiler, the insurance is paying for everything, and im gonna have it painted the hole car yellow from its original color black. i got some really bad hail dammage on the hood and on some of the roof that they are gonna repair also, o and the door from when i hit another car side swaped it it was bearly anything just a brush scratch. they gave like 4 thousdand dollars wich is gonna cover everything to repair the car, dam cant wait till its finished next week. its gonna look bad ***.
heres the lancer, sorry about the pic quality (camera phone). But do you all think the insurence company will give me enough to get the things i need fixing, fixed. Plus a body kit and have it painted. If i tell the body shop guys i want a kit do you think they will kick a little extra onto the estimate?
ps. Thanks for everyones help

Depends on what kind of insurance u have.
My experience with AAA:
If u take it to the company's recommended body shop than the adjustor will not take a look at your car. The body shop will just go ahead and fix it.
(One catch: They will look for used parts in the market and use those. They will order new parts from the dealership only if they cant find used parts..... Also they will not let u use aftermarket parts eventhough they will be cheaper for the ins. company)
Advantge: U get warrany on parts and labor as long as u own the car
Disadvantage: Cant put on After market parts.
Oprion #2:
Taking it to the non approved body-shop.
In this case, claim adjustor will go down to your car and take a look at the demage on your car. they will issue a porperty damage settlement draft depending on the demage.
(You will have freedom to put on any aftermarket parts becuase the ins company already paid u and they will not really care to see where u spent that money)
One disadvantage of doing this is that lets say if u get your car back from the bodyshop and find some other mechanical damage than it will be hard to get more $$ from insurance company. They will look for the excuses not to relate that demage with the accident and that is how they will screw u.
So..... u decide. I already work for the insurance company and i also had experience with "AAA" claim procedures and policies.
GOOD LUCK !!!

any experience with state farm insurance?
I tanked a deer last night on the highway and smashed the driver side fender, dented the driver side door (it wont open), broke the mounting tabs on the driver side headlight (cedia), and dented the hood. Front bumper is okay but kinda scuffed up.
I'm thinking of taking the car to one of the approved body shops in the area, but I'd like to try and get them to paint and install my lip kit while the car is there, since they'll be doing painting anyways...

State Farm won't send an adjuster on claims under $2000 I believe, might be higher, but I had a $2000 claim approved at a non recommended shop. I know my insurance agent reasonably well and I wouldn't doubt that that may have helped. Most places are pretty used to jacking up estimates... no reason not to for them really. They get paid more and they don't have to worry about you getting upset for screwing you. And no, ins. doesn't care what you spend the money on. Go buy yourself 6000 hot dogs from Kwik Trip and they won't make a peep. Just ask the shop if they'd be willing to throw it all in on the estimate. Insurance agents may frown when you ask them something like that, but no mechanic I know would.

Yes, body shops do charge more if they know ins is paying. If you go in ask them how much for an estimate w/ins paying and one with just you paying. The one you will be paying will be lower.
Don't forget to remind the insurance company that they need to pay for the diminshed value of your vehicle which is the money you would lose should you decide to sell the car later on down the road and the buyer find's out it's been in an accident and wants the price cut down
