Hyundai on a Mitsu. motor?

I work in lumberton NC. at the Williamson Mazda dealership and sell cars. The other day a lady came in and traded for an RX-8. The car she traded in was a 95 eclipes GST. FWD. so b/c i do not see them to much i was kinda pumped. it is in pretty good shape and its turbo. but when i looked under the hood of the car, on the valve cover says Hyundai, then it says mitsubishi on the sparkpug cover. Maybe I am asking a stupid question but I didn't think Hyundai's name would be onthe motor. and if you want to see what i am talking about, i can take some pics of it. i just never seen this on any other GST that i know of.

Well, early on, it was pretty well known that the 4G63 could easily be swapped into a Hyundai platform, so its not beyond reasoning to think some might have gone the other way.

Its possible its just a valvecover or head swap, I don't recall how similar these motors are and how much actual interchange there is. But if the car belonged to someone who wasn't very car savy, and they blew their engine, its entirely possible that their mechanic swapped a "Cheap" engine into the car that fit..

I've seen a Hyundai Accent, Excel, and one or two others with DSM 4G63t's swapped into them... It was an old school "Sleeper" trick..

I'd love to see pics of it, but you don't know what the deal is with the car, don't bother buying it, you don't know what was done to the car...

Mitsubishi provided engines to Hyundai back in the early 90's. Elantras had N/A DOHC 4G63's in them. Sonatas had 6-bolt 2.4L GC4S's that make a good bottom end for people who want to build a 2.4L DSM motor. The valve covers (and everything else) are completely swappable as they are the same engine, or family of.

I found that same info from my Mitsu dealer when I was having major lifter problems. Instead of $40 for 1 lifter from Mitsu, at Hyundai you can get all 16 for $154. They are the same exact lifter.

The Mitsu 4G63 and the Hyundai NA 4G63 share the same valve cover design, but as you can see the Hyundai says "Hyundai" on it.

The woman might have had a cracked valve cover and replaced it much cheaper with the Hyundai variant.

I have heard that the actual NA 4G63 in the Hyundai is the same *design* as the mitsu motor but built in a different factory with different materials.

Not True, the NA DOHC 2.0L in the 2nd gen Non-turbo eclipse and talon used the dodge neon sourced motor.
