The BMW has all the free scheduled maintenance, I believe, up to 50,000.
While evo may be faster, the BMW does claim 255 RWD HP (AWD option, I think). And to be totally honest, there are soooo many times when I simply cannot drive the evo the way I'd like because of all the traffic

I'd like to drive one to see the difference.

How would the resale on the bmw compare to an evo after 3 or 5 years?

I hear the dealer service for BMW is unholy high. Would want to get rid of it by the time the free maintenance is over.

How about reliability? Would it be generally better than the evo?

Are bmws bolt-on friendly? I saw discussions about a 8k turbo kit, not interested in that. Just wondering about easy stuff like intakes and exhaust, or maybe a chip.
New evos have free scheduled maintenance as well. 3 years i think?
Evo is faster
BMW slightly higher resale.
BMW service is mad expensive but at least they arent crooks
reliability? Prolly give the nod to BMW.
Bolt on friendly: evos respond well. BMWs blow up.

The "scheduled" maintenance conforms to that list in the back of the manual. 5000 miles between oil changes. Maybe it is within the recommended spec, but I have been changing it every 2500 miles. And most of that stuff is "inspect muffler bearings" and "rotate washer fluid" type bs. Really the only value in the 5000 and 10000 mile schedule maint is the oil change and the cabin air filter.

Oh, the rotate the tires too. But don't let them do that they scratched the paint on one of my wheels by the lug nut dumbasses.

Flip a coin. Heads = BMW. Tails = EVO. After you see how it lands if you get a sick feeling in your stomach, buy the other one.

Works every time for me.

The guy I bought our Evo from had an M3. He said performance wise they were very close. The bimmer definitly has a nicer interior. Since you're comparing the MR I would have to give the resale nod to the Evo over a 330. With 1000 made, the value the car is going to hold should be wicked (I would think similar to Supras and the 3000 VRs). As stated above the maintenance shouldnt be an issue, every 5000 they say to change the oil and check a few things.

Our MR only has 3100 miles on it so I cant say anything about reliability yet.

New bimmers are 255hp (crank not rwhp) and are pretty damn fast. Since my car is stock again, there was one on my tail the other day and had absolutely no problem following... until we hit the twisties
Although I'm kind of a fan of bimmers, I think they're a bit overpriced and don't like majority of people that drive them and therefore would never buy one. I love my ricer and even more, people have no idea what it is but always laugh at the huge wing (which makes me even happier ).

very hard decision..i am a die hard bmw fan my last 2 cars have been bmw's and i will be going back to bmw next summer most likely. the evo is an awesome car dont get me wrong but i like power/handling+luxury (M3!). bmw's respond decently to bolt-on's nothing near how the evo or most imports for that matter do. the only problem with bolt-on's for a bmw is they are rediculously expensive. your avg turbo kit (by my research so far) for the evo costs maybe 4k for an incredible amt of power. for the bmw (330) you cant get to the power of the stock evo with your basic bolt on's you would have to go deep into the engine (internals) which would start costing a lot of money (not to mention your warranty) or into a F.I. setup which runs on the very low end about 7k but for a good kit with awesome power your looking at about 10-12k. in the end you just gotta decide if you wanna go with the lux "high class" bmw name, or the sheer performance (and respect in the import world) of the evo
