Is a boost gauge a must?

I have a EVO IX which is 100% bone stock as of now and I was wondering if I need a boost gauge. My subaru buddies tell me that on a stock car it's pretty pointless to have, I always thought it was a good idea to keep an eye on how well the turbo is working.

Your friends are correct unless you want to increase the boost level. It is a nice mod though.

i say its a must...the first thing i bought was a boost gauge and a turbo timer....IMHO it seems like these are necessities for any turbo-charged vehicle...but hey thats just mt .02 cents

Not always correct, but sometimes. Boost gauge can also indicate if you got a boost leak. Most people on here recommend boost gauge as #1 aftermarket add-on. Just my 2 cents

ya your friends are right, get one only if you plan on making changes to anything internally or even small things to the car

yea, you really dont need one until you start imcreasing the boost. But a boost gauge definatly wouldnt be a bad idea to make sure you dont have any leaks (you stock so I would imagine that you dont)..

if you add _any_ mods and you ought to include gauges to make sure the mods are doing what they're supposed to. If it's bone stock, it's not necessary, but kind of cool to look at...

You dont really need it on a stock car, but if you want to mod it a boost gauge should be your first mod.

I won't be doing any performance mods to my car anytime soon, I plan on keeping it stock for a while so I can enjoy my car..... something I never did with my sti. I do plan on adding a bunch of suspension mods along with minor break upgrades. That being said would it be worth it to install a defi boost gauge on a stock evo? BTW thanks for all the input!

If your not gonna do any engine mods and want to do suspension stuff then just buy the suspension stuff and buy a boost gauge before you start modding the engine.

I'm not that familiar with the evo turbo system..... with my sti you didn't need a turbo timer.....so I assume the EVO needs a turbo timer? The evo turbo is only oil cooled then I assume?
