*Boost leaks
*CEL light from installing "chip"
*broken front diff

That's from reading a few of your posts to the list. Now, to me and maybe a few others, that would be totally unacceptable. This is what I mean, can't go around telling folks that everything will be OK if one does so and so just because it seems OK to you (or whoever). It's not a value judgement, just plain reality. Now, lets look at the big hassles of my '05 MR:

XEDE and custom tune by Dyno4mance.... Gained 25 whp, no drawbacks

Installed 3" catback.... Hated the noise, glad to give up the 10 WHP that I gained.

That's it, no more problems, nothing, nada, zip............ (really, nothing, no CELs, no idle issues, nothing....
What in d h3ll are you talking about NOTHING on my list has caused anything but postive thing's to my car .

issues with SSQV (stalling, etc) --- NOT on my list
*P0300 codes-- b/c of cam's NOT on that list
*replaced lifters--b/c of cam's still not on the list
*exhaust leaks-- wtf ? I didnt say exahust on that list
*CEL EGR flow codes ---3'' tb still didnt make my list
*Boost leaks-- never hurts to check for boost leak , but you cant tell some ppl nothing
*CEL light from installing "chip" --not on the list
*broken front diff--racing , not on my list

I have dont a lot of things to my evo and i know what makes it less of a evo . NONE of thoes things did i put on my "list"
Here is my list again , please reread , nothing on my list has caused negative effects on my car .

Hey, sorry if I upset you... I know you did not list those things that gave you grief. I was just addressing the idea of modifications in general and how they can have unintended consequences that can make one nuts.... I agree with you completely with the EVO 7 lights, the MR valve and the Alpine HU, those are excellent, trouble free mods As for the springs, I'd have to reserve judgement until I ride in your car but I'd tend to think they wont ride as nice as the stock springs. The Dynoflash can be a good mod (lots of folks swear by it). However, in my experience it was not very good. As I said before, Al did a $600 road tune and the end result was that he took timing out and enriched the fuel. George from Boost Solutions said that the flash was no good, but OTOH, George totally ruined my car with his "expertise" in tuning and modifying the car

I'd have to say an XEDE gave me the best bang for the buck. It simply depends on how far you are willing to go in pushing the stock envelope. If increasing boost doesn't worry you, then it would be my first choice.

The drawback for me was the P300 codes. I dealt with it by carrying around a code reader/eraser.

How did you get those codes? Was it after the XEDE?

Usually the best mods are tires and shaving weight for any given car. And what a vague question... do you mean best first mod? best mod for power? for handling? for looks? for sound? can go on and on.

This is a hard question to answer because everyone wants to believe that the mods they have and the path they have followed are correct.

There are some mods generally considered a waste of time (initially) such as any intake changes and BOVs.

There are some things that are proven to make power -- exhaust, down pipe, high flow cat, cams, and of course quality tuning such as a reflash.

What may be your best investment at first is a quality set of gauges. Once you have these then make mods and watch the changes. Not only will you be able to tell things are improving but you will be able to make sure you don't damage anything.

Either way take your time and have fun. Modding is kinda like foreplay -- no need to rush to the end
