no worries, iamqbe. no offense taken.

as it turns out, i think the high reading was partially due to the car not sitting perfectly level in the garage. i took it to another parking lot and rechecked. it was still a little high but only half as bad as it looks in the pic. i'll get the dealership to drain a little oil just to be safe.

1. Yes, the little sticker on top says you should.

2. Buy a case of Mobil1 and change it yourself or bring it to a quick lube place. Keep a close eye on their work if you do the latter.

This happened to me as well and I think is due to the service personnel not taking into account the oil that resides in the oil cooler. It's really not that easy of a thing to change the oil in these cars!

The book states 4.7, don't add more cause you are too lazy to measure out 4.7 out of 5. 5.5 is also way too much. I also believe that 4.7 is how much you put in when you have a new oil filter/empty.

I just changed my oil this weekend and I seem to have overfilled it. I only put in 4 quarts, started the car, ran it a bit, checked the oil level and then topped off about .5 quarts to reach the end of the stick.

Then after driving it around all day I checked it and it is past the marker. I'll check it again later on. I don't think overfilling a little is a big deal.

I don't think you HAVE to use Mobil 1. Seems that the USDM has this sticker on the cover that says you have to use it but the JDM doesn't.

There's plenty of oil out there that are just as good as the Mobil. I'd say that as long as you get the correct grade (viscosity, GL etc.) and it's full synthetic then you are fin. If you're not sure just stick to the more reputable brands like Castrol, Shell etc.

BTW, I'm using HKS oils for my evo Enging, gearbox, transfer box. No problem at all.

I change mine everytime. But they say you don't have to, and thats why they give you with and without oil filter specs.

But I also use Royal Purple not Mobil 1, and a Fram Filter.

just to follow-up: i took my car back to the dealership and had them drain the excess oil. everything seems fine now...in fact, the car seems like it's faster? i noticed it felt a little slow when i was getting on it this weekend, but i figured it was just a bad tank of gas.

so stupid question: would the ECU pull timing or something because the engine oil was overfilled? maybe there's some kind of safety feature?
