Anyone? I'm considering swapping my stock mr bpv for a turbosmart 38mm bpv.

It doesn't matter what the size is. BOVs that fit the Evo fit the Evo. We don't refer to them by their outlet sizes. If that one is not designed for an Evo, then it probably won't work.

Anyway, there's absolutely no reason for you to replace your awesome stock JDM MR DV with one that costs a lot and provides no measurable benefit. if you already have it or it's free, then try it out. If you're going to pay $200+ for a replacement, then ask yourself what you're trying to accomplish. That $200 could be spent on a mail-in Dynoflash or an mbc+gauge+pod, both of which provide SIGNIFICANT GAINS. If you plan to eventually run 25+psi on a regular basis, then your choice to upgrade the BOV may be warranted...

My buddy, who owns a EVO VIII, just found out that I sold my sti and told me he has a little gift for my new ride. He gave me his turbosmart 38mm recirculating bpv since he upgraded to a VTA turbosmart bov. I took it but I told him I didn't need it since my stock bpv is the JDM MR one. He told me the one he gave me is better because the 38mm outlet causes no compressor surge. I know for right now it won't do anything to my stock IX but if I install it will it give me any problems? I do plan on running a 57 Trim turbo later on so should I wait till the turbo goes in or can I do it now? I'm obviously not doing it for the sound since it's a bpv like the stock one.

Since it's recirculating, it shouldn't hurt anything, but I don't see how the size of the outlet keeps it from surging. If the spring is stiff enough to hold high boost, then it will surge in high gear at part throttle. If the 38mm outlet allows it to hold 20+psi without leaking while also alleviating all surging, then go for it. I just haven't heard of such a thing, and haven't read of anyone using that BOV.

57 trim? Haven't heard of that either, but you will probably want a stronger BOV than stock when going to an upgraded turbo. I don't know if that's a powerful turbo or whatever, but I assume it is if you're going to upgrade from the IX, which is a VERY powerful turbo with no spoolup hindrances like other bigger turbos.

Me? I run 21-22psi daily on pump and 24-25psi on race gas at the track. My MR DV was great and never held me back in any of my applications.
