Ive heard that the 20G can produce compressor surge under certain conditions... what is compressor surge and is it bad for the car? Im considering the 20G for my next mod or alcohol injection/N2O..possible a different bolt on or cheaper kit if the price is right..

 

Basically when the compressor trys to move more air then possible through the housings and or into the engine and it causes air to stall and or move backwards through the compressor. It's common in some oem turbo's on big trucks, lots of times flutter from BOV's is confused with this on evo's, which is actually the bov bleeding off boost in a violent manner because of unballanced air on the top vs. bottom side of the valve. Compressor surge often sounds like a wooshing sound of air, often called a compressor bark, fart and so on.

 

so, is it bad for the car? or just annoying to the driver(the sound, etc..)?

 

its bad for the turbo compressor wheels.

 

well, i decided to go with a 50 trim kit from RNR instead of a 20G-9 or 20G.
