Axle back exhaust?
Axle back exhaust?
I figured I would post this here, since it kinda seems like a dumb question. I have a 3" Taipan TBE on my car, but I want something different, without buying a whole new catback, or turbo-back. Would I just have to get a custom axle back? I think I have only seen but one, but not one that I want. I want something in the manner of HKS or the ApexI N1. Would I have to get that custom built? Thanks for putting up with me long enough to read this thread.
If you are open to advise, save your money and delete your axle back entirely. I have a full stock system and paid $30 to remove the muffler after the joint. They reattached the 4 in stock outlet to the end to give it a stock look - boom, right away, I could feel about 15 hp increase, with a decrease in 18lbs of weight! The sound is so right - not too loud or farty; its deep and you can easily live with it on the highway. When you open up the engine, you can feel the difference and the exhaust sounds great.
just my 2 cents.

That's great and all, but I have no problem with the way this exhaust sounds. My friends tell me my car is loud, but to be honest I think the system is actually quite timid. I don't know why I would get rid of a decent sounding TBE to get a stock exhaust either, it seems to me that would be a step backwards. I'm just looking for a little different sound, and look from my system, since I already have the performance of a 3" TBE. I don't want to have to replace the whole system for a minimum of $500 to do that. I was just thinking there may be axle backs out there that would just replace the muffler, without the need to reweld, since I already have all the other piping, but I have yet to find anything. And I've been looking for a while too. I was just wondering if anyone else had done anything like this, and if custom was the only way to go. I would much rather have something bolted on, instead of a shop welding on a new piece. Make sense?
What it all comes down to is how much exactly is it worth to you to have a different sounding exhaust.(insert rolleyes here) To me, it's a huge waste of money, not to mention bandwidth.
It's not that I just want a different sounding exhaust, sure that would be nice, but my exhaust right now does sound pretty good. Nice low bass, no rasp. I just like the look of the N1 style systems better. Yes, yes, to a lot of people, doing something just for looks is well, pointless. Maybe it would be a waste of money since I already have a good exhaust on there, I was just wondering what my options were.
By the way, thanks Inarticulate. I actually think those might have been the exhausts I had seen before. I'll keep those in mind.
And thanks to everyone else for posting as well, your opinions are appreciated.

You mean just the muffler portion right? That's basically what I was trying to say, sorry if I hadn't made that clear. I was just trying to see if there were any bolt on options, instead of going to a muffler shop to get one welded on, ya know?
