newb with some questions..

hey everyone.. my name is steve. i DO NOT have an evo but my buddy does and i have a few questions about it because he is illiterate lol. to start he has i believe an 04 evo 8 with a Full 3" exhaust w/ high flow cat, injen intake system with the intercooler piping, and a greddy bov (not sure what one). now whenever he get to high rpms, say around 5500 and up, it fells like it cuts out a lil and he is only runnin 16lbs of boost. i dont know alot about evo's but i do know they come with 19lbs stock. also when i put on his intake for him i figured i would feel for any shaft play in the turbo. wel yea there is some. not alot but enough to feel with your fingers when wigglin it.. is the turbo supposed to have any shaft play, and also what could be causing it to cut out in the higher rpms. he does not have a boost controller, scanner nor any kind of air/fuel controller. ii was thinking since he put on what mods he has without turnin up the boost to stock, he could be running rich?? to much fuel causin it to drown out? i could and just might be wrong but that why im askin the knowledgeable crew.i would really hate to see him blow up his motor. replies would greatly be appreciated.

it has 19psi peak boost, it wont hold thru out the rpm range unless he has a boost controller . one of the best mods for the evo.

The evos we'd screw around with at school were prone to fuel cut with the mods you describe. Fuel pump/better injectors/reflash will fix it. Reflash alone will be the best bet.
