Im new to the boards..i recently drive a 04 Honda Civic..with all the mods for the sucky d17 engine that it has..im tired of it..im going to be buying a evo here soon..probably a 03-04 Evo 8.. any suggestions for me buying one? Ive read numerous posts on what to look for when buying a evo.. but i want to know what you guys think is the best way to buy one...private sale or dealer ? Also.. any issues that evo's usually come across?
Welcome! This site will definitely be a great source of info for you. I have learned alot, and it has even saved me a few times w/ installs. There is a ton of people here that can help you out, but don't just take one persons opinion. Do your research if you are modding anything. Have fun here, and don't get caught up in the pointless arguments which happen from time to time. Good luck on the car purchase!
I'd say any miles is to much. But, if you have to buy a used one stay under 40k miles, and ask the owned all the questions you can, and check if there was any warrenty work done.
And ask all the question to the seller you can, like how long did you run that break in, did you go to the track, is there any work done to the car, stuff like that.

Well I would say it depends on your situation whether to buy from private seller or dealer, if you have to trade in or get rid of your car, it may be easier to go with a dealer. But if you already have plans to sell your car privately or your just keeping it, then you can go with a private seller and buy an EVO for a lower price. Now buying a 03-04 EVO will mean you will need to make sure everything is cool about the car, for those years seem to have been the most problematic for the EVO. If the miles are 20,000 and higher and still on stock clutch, don't be surprised if a new clutch will be in the future especially if it's modded. It's just something you have to deal with especially if modded. But if the EVO is stock, then the clutch should last for an extended period of time. Before you buy the car, just make sure you have a mechanic or something check it out before purchase. Other than that, get ready for a very fun ride, filled with a lot of thrills, joy, and sometimes drama.
