Was wondering what's the difference between electric and mechanical. I'm looking to get the blitz mirror boost gauge and the mechanical is $140 and the electric is $202. Just wondering if it's worth the money for the electric and the differences... thanx.

 

Basically, it comes down to price difference of each unit and the electronic ones enables you to record/replay peak boost and conditions and what not.
Personally thought I would go with a cheaper mechanical type.
Defi gauges are really nice and has some cool features but it comes with a price tag.
I think mechanical ones will be just fine if you ask me.

I don't think that is the difference. I know that can be a function of an electrical gauge, but doesn't really explain the difference.

An example would be:

Mechanical Oil Pressure - a line from your filter housing, or whereever it is tapped would run to where the gauge is mounted and would read oil pressure. The big problem with this is if the line breaks, gauge breaks, fitting becomes loose (which happened to me), then you now have oil in your car.

Electrical Oil Pressure- Sensor is at the point it is tapped and you have just wires running to the gauge. Now you don't have to worry about bringing, water, fuel, oil, etc... into the car.

So, in short, spend the extra money and buy and electrical gauge.
