just bought a 03 evo--- problems
+1 on this. Worst advice ever
1. Get the code pulled. (You can get a cheap OBD2 reader for 30 bucks on ebay, search for OBD and Evo if you want to get one for yourself)
2. Get them to fix the problem or return the car to them if they cant /wont, depending on your state laws. If it was modded and they just reset the ECU b4 you bought it, it may take several hundred miles for the CEL to show up, depending on the code etc). But its pretty suspicious that you only got 18 miles.
Ask for the specific codes, write them down and post them.

I have worked on many evos and the SES light being on is NOT normal. IMO i would take it right back to the dealer you purchased it from and have them look at it. Then you can worry about modding it.

so the reason for for the check engine light was do do low vacum.?! the service advisor told me they did a compression test and all 4 cylinders are at 140, they had to swap the #3 and #4 injectors. it fixed the rough idle and the CEL. but that really confuses me about why they had to swap them unless the previous owner had bigger injectors and put his old ones in wrong. I am not very happy with this dealership but the car runs good now. i wish i knew who owned this car before me.

You could just sell the new gauge/pod here on EvoM afterwards. Once you do those mods, you'll be at 300whp/300wtq on 93oct. With those same mods, I ran 12.26@110mph as you see in my sig.
If you don't want to do that package, then consider doing the same combination of parts and build up slowly as you get the money. Yes, a flash would void the warranty if the dealership knew you had one, but they can't detect it. I'd be more worried about the exhaust voiding it and/or the MBC/BOV. You don't even have a warranty on an 03 after the next 1500 miles, though.

i ran into the same prob too when i bought my car.. the check engine light was on then i went back to the dealer and *****ed about it.. it was a bad bank 1 o2 sensor... they fixed it for me free of charge...
from what your saying is pretty much that same senario, when my check engine light came on.. it was idling rough when i just park at the red light... and sometimes when you go up your driveway.. the car just dies on you.. if you see those symptoms then its your o2. u can get your ecu code checked for free if you visit your nearest autozone retailer.

I heard if anything is done to your evo.. Say bye bye to the warranty. My buddy had a stock mr2 and toyota didn't replace his motor.. And they really had no reasons. I am happy that I am getting a 100000 mile warranty with my ix.. But if something major breaks I don't trust it will be covered.
I have a 2003 evo with the same problems, some worse....its stock too!
If you have a warranty, than definitely try to make it stock and go to the dealer. I would not buy a creader or anything that would turn off a notification of an engine problem, thats just dumb. My friends have 2003 evo's with no problems like mine, these are isolated problems.
My evo, when driving on the highway in 5th gear started losing power and threw a CEL. This is a bogging sound and seemed dead in power for a few seconds.
Also, I did notice the car idleing funny when at a stop light.
I was told this could be a bad MAF sensor, and maybe bad coil packs....who knows?
I have 32k miles on it, still under warranty and I'm taking my car in tonight. The shop hasnt seen this problem ever and is clueless as to what it is. They flashed it like 3 times for the error code, put stock plugs back in....same problem.
I'll keep you posted !!!

update
well my car is still in the shop--- they switched the 3rd and 4th coil packs this time to see if it is a coil pack, the dealership doesnt really know whats going on with my car. they have a case started with mitsubishi. they are also replacing the calve cover gasket because it has a bad leak. i just want to have my car back and running good.
