Is the evo VIII/IX the right car for me?

I am sure there are a few similar threads out there like this. I will be the first to admit I did not search. Just like everyone else out there, I want personal attention so I am making my own.

I have already looked at my budget, and I know that I can afford the evo. Not just the cost of the car, but insurance maintence as well. I have been wanting an evo since 2003 when I first sat in one. Now that I have a real job I can afford one, so it is hard for me not to run to the nearest dealer and sign for one.

I am looking for a daily driver (5 miles to work), but also a weekend racer(autoX, roadcourse, and some drag). That is why I originally bought the SRT-4 in my signature. But now that I crave more and more power, I am running into traction issues. What better way to solve this problem than getting an AWD car. I will be driving the car in the Sunshine, Rain, and Snow. I already have a set of snow tires that I can add to a set of wheels for the EVO, so I think that would help with the snow problem. But once you start modding the EVO when does too much power override the snow tires/traction in snow? This makes me worry about rain as well.

So, I figured that I could put my Greddy profec B spec 2 boost controller into the Evo, and this would give me 3 power levels (off = wastegate only, an d LO/HI with the controller on). Are there any vendors that supply piggbacks with 3 or more switchable fuel maps? Such as, 300, 350, 400? If not 3, how about 2 switchable maps?

Hopefully my thoughts makes sense, in that if it is raining or snowing, or just want a mild daily commute, I can just turn off the boost controller, and switch to a 300HP fuel map and not worry too much about traction. If I'm at a track that doesn't sell race fuel, I can run the LO boost and switch to a 350 HP map.

So I'm just hoping this opportunity is out there, because I am ready to get one of these cars.

If you read this much, thanks for your patience!

P.S. I am dyslexic so please bear with any typo's that may be in there.

first off, you already know the answer, the evo is all you.
secondly, you have a 5 minute commute, so mod the hell out of it.
lastly, the power will not override the traction in the snow. Even if you slap on a huge turbo and make a ton of power, you will have plenty of rpm where you are not in full boost.

if i didnt actually read your post i would have just said... if you have to ask the answer is no, the evo is not for you.

get tuned for pump gas, use the boost controller to turn it up when running race gas at the track, and keep your foot out of the gas in the snow/rain. drive for the conditions on the road just like your srt....

simple...

good luck and if you buy one, welcome to the wonderful world of evos....

Yeah, I believe the EVO is definitly the right car for you and if you have been waiting to get one so long, why wait any longer when the opportunity to get one comes up. The EVO is the perfect car for you, and you seem like a great fit for the EVO too. You'll enjoy the car very much, the SRT-4 is also an amazing car, but this EVO is just spectacular when running right. As far as your question "Are there any vendors that supply piggbacks with 3 or more switchable fuel maps? Such as, 300, 350, 400? If not 3, how about 2 switchable maps?" I am not sure, hopefully somebody can chime in and answer this for you, but as far as getting the EVO, do it, you won't look back.

This is the perfect car for you. You might want to look at ecu+, or one of the other ecu's. I have been doing some research in ecu choices my self.
